Fall Color-Coding

Its hard to believe that it is actually fall, as we continue to

simmer in the heat of Southwest Florida. As temperatures
drop up north, and in some places in the mountains and
hills, the leaves are blazing with color; we hardly notice
the change of seasons. Fall has always been my favorite
season, having lived part of my life where the leaves
actually did reveal brilliant colors of orange, brown, and
yellow. I also love fall because of football, the expectation
of another great season and the new semesters of ministry
on our campus.
Fortunately, the Mamas & the Papas old song does not apply to our ministries
All the leaves are brown and the sky is grey. We praise the Lord for His
blessing on First Baptist Academy, including academic and athletic pursuits.
I love watching the Lions win. New semesters of RefresHer and Band of
Brothers unleash the dynamic of our discipling ministries and provide entry
points for new people.
Our children, preschoolers, and students are also experiencing vibrant ministries
on Wednesday night and at other times of the year. Childrens choirs have
begun, along with the sale of tickets for the Naples Christmas Spectacular.
We have the opportunity to reach hundreds of children with Trunk and Treat
on October 30. After three weeks in our new Chapel service at 11:00, over 300
are now regular attenders with great growth potential and exciting spirit. We
just kicked off the emphasis of touching thousands of children with the good
news of Christmas through Operation Christmas Child.
Of course, most of us miss the postcard panorama of brilliant colored leaves
in the fall. I am not a botanist, nor the son of one, but I am told that the color
resides in the leaves year round, but you cant see them because of all the sap
and whatever else it is that pulses through the plant in order to keep it alive. I
read that in the fall, in the parts of the country where they see these displays
of the Creators glory, these warm-weather nutrients, (like our wonderful winter
residents) retreat to the cozier regions within this trunk. This produces that
brilliant display of neon pigments which remain behind.
The glory of the indwelling Christ tabernacles in each believer; even if our
outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day (2 Cor.
4:16). We sometimes feel that the leaves of our lives are nothing but brittle,
decaying brown, yet we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that the
surpassing power belongs to God and not to us (2 Cor. 4:7). It takes stress,
sorrow, and setbacks to reveal our inner person in Christ. May our lives and
ministries allow Christs color-coding to be complete.

*There is a guest reception in the Commons following the Saturday night and
Sunday morning 11:00am worship services. Pastor would love to meet you!
