SYSTEM SOFTWARE

SYSTEM SOFTWARE

MODEL 12101

An integral part of the Networked Energy Services (NES) system,

NES System Software communicates with NES data concentrators
and meters to deliver services and events. The software acts as
an edge or access server into the NES system. It provides a standards-based Web services interface to the utility's enterprise middleware, making it easy to integrate with J2EE, .NET, or other Web
services-aware applications and infrastructure from companies such
as IBM, BEA Systems, Microsoft, Sun, HP, and Oracle. NES System
Software can also directly access the SQL database included with
the middleware.

F E A T U R E S

Collects and reports utility data, such as consumption, load profiles, and power quality
Collects and reports network events such as tamper alarms and outages
Provides on-demand billing read services to meters
Enables remote configuration of NES meters and data concentrators, such as tariff structures
Enables remote firmware upgrades for NES meters and data concentrators
Enables remote control of NES meters, such as triggering the meters disconnect switch
Effortlessly scales from small projects to millions of devices
Allows grouping of meters through attributes and hierarchies to perform commands over subsets of meters
Supports connection scheduling to automate connections to (and data retrieval from) data concentrators
Maintains accurate system time in meters and data concentrators
Manages information about the grid topology
Allows easy integration with utility middleware and applications using standards-based design-XML, .NET, and TCP/IP
Manages and supports standard TCP/IP wide area network communication systems such as GSM, GPRS, broadband, and landline
Supports incoming and outgoing connections to data concentrators using Windows Remote Access Server for small
projects, and the Cisco AS5350 Access Server for larger deployments
Redundant architecture allows hot-swapping and ensures system availability
Backward-compatible architecture protects information technology investment
Includes comprehensive C# sample applications to speed development and integration

System Requirements

- Microsoft Windows Server 2003

- Microsoft SQL Server 2000 SP 3a

- Provides services such as adding and removing meters, to manage the

NES infrastructure
- Associates meters with customers or data concentrators; handles all mappings
from customer identifier or meter serial number to a specific meter and the
owning data concentrator(s)
Infrastructure Management

- Provides services to associate data concentrators with transformers and handles

mappings from transformer identifier to data concentrator identifier
- Loads provisioning information into data concentrators
- Loads new firmware images into data concentrators; facilitates the loading of
new firmware images into meters

- Collects meter data from data concentrators into a SQL database

- Collects load profile data from data concentrators into a SQL database
Data Collection
- Performs on-demand (spontaneous) meter reads
- Collects and stores power-quality data

- Loads new operational data, such as tariff tables, schedules, and billing periods
into meters
Control

- Provides an accurate time reference using Coordinated Universal Time

format
- Dispatches commands to meters for disconnect and reconnect
