1. Description
1.1 The following Procedure is to ensure that Ducting Leakage test are conducted
safely and effectively
1.2 The following test procedure has been prepared as action guideline for the
ductwork leakage testing.
1.3 Testing and Commissioning Engineer shall select at random the duct system to be
tested for air leakage. The tests shall be carried out as the work proceeds.
1.4 In the event of test failure of the selected section, the project engineer shall
undertake remedial works prior to the failed section being re tested. As a result of
any failure, the Independent Testing and Commissioning Engineer shall have the
right to select two (2) further sections at random for testing. Where successive
failures are identified there shall be a right to require the contractor to apply
remedial attention to the complete ductwork system, prior to the entire system
being witnessed as acceptable by the Independent Testing and Commissioning
Engineer.
1.5 FM200 exhaust ductwork serving the Client areas will be tested, other
ductwork will be tested at the clients discretion.
3. Reference Standards
3.1 The following standards have been referenced when preparing these test
procedures:
4. Test Procedures
Carry out the following prior to starting any testing:
4.1 Identify and agree section of ductwork to be tested and requirements for blanking
plates, mark on both schematic and layout plan drawing for inclusion with test
results.
4.2 Ensure there are no obvious leaks in the ductwork or any damage.
4.3 Identify ductwork classification and required test pressures.
5. Test Procedures
5.1 Blank-off any open ends in the ductwork of the test section.
5.2 Calculate surface area of ductwork test section and identify maximum permitted
leakage.
5.3 Connect test fan to ductwork test section and set up manometer.
5.4 Start the test fan and adjust the flow rate until the required static pressure
differential is achieved.
5.5 Check the measured leakage is within the permitted rate.
5.6 Maintain the test for a minimum of 15 minutes and after this period, check the
measured air leakage has not increased.
5.7 Switch off the fan and allow the static pressure in the duct to reduce to zero and
then restart the fan and check that the leakage rate has not increased.
5.8 Record the results on Test Sheet
