any other digital form of submissions (like via email or pen drive etc.) will not
be accepted. You MUST submit a Word document. Do not submit a PDF or
other form of document format.

For coursework, the submission word limit is 2,500 words. You must comply
with the word count guidelines. You may submit LESS than 2,500 words but
not more. Tables, diagrams, bibliography, appendices, annex and headings
are NOT included within word count calculations. You must specify total word
count on the front page of your report.

For coursework, please use font size 12 for body text and the typeface (font)

should be Arial or Times New Roman with minimum 1.5 spacing.

For headers and titles, please use font size 14. Your submission must have

standard margins and page numbers.

Please use English (UK) as your language in the submission.
Do not put your name or contact details anywhere on your submission. You
should only put your student identification number (SRN) which will ensure

your submission is recognised in the marking process.

required to achieve minimum 50% to pass this assessment. This assessment
provides 60% of the total assessment score for this module. You must achieve
a pass grade (50%) on both this assessment and the module exam to pass

the module.
You are required to use only Harvard Referencing System in your submission.

invalid and not marked.

2. Assessment Brief
IMPORTANT POINTS TO NOTE
You must submit a Word document (NOT PDF) via the turnitin link.
Do not include in appendices any work you wish the marker to consider as part
of your answer. The markers will NOT read appendices.
USE OF EXCEL
You may use excel to support your workings. However please take note of the
following points:
1. You must NOT submit an excel file. It will not be considered by the
markers.
2. You may NOT embed excel files into the Word document. If you are
unsure what is meant by this see: https://support.office.com/enus/article/Link-or-embed-an-Excel-worksheet-41bf021e-ba7c-44ef-99140d7e88062257
3. You may copy and paste workings from excel into your Word submission.
However the layout must be such that the markers can understand your
calculations. In other words do not simply copy a series of calculations. You
must include explanations of each step of your workings. Failure to do so
will result in a significant loss of marks.

The assignment comprises three sections. Please answer all

three sections.

Section A
You are required to access the latest financial accounts of Easyjet plc (from its
website). You are asked to undertake a ratio analysis of Easyjet latest results.
Your analysis should include:

a) Calculation and presentation of suitable ratios for Easyjet and an

appropriate benchmark business.
(10 marks)
b) Explanation of key findings from part a).
(30 marks)
Section B
You are asked to estimate the weighted average cost of capital of Easyjet plc,
based on the most current information available. Your submission should include:
a) Calculation of WACC
(5marks)
b) Justification of:
a. Assumptions;
b. Data used;
c. Sources relied on for data.
You may not rely on any ratios calculated by Easyjet or others. Such ratios
include (but are not limited to) WACC, effective tax rate, cost of debt, market
premium, return on market. You are expected to undertake these secondary
calculations yourself from primary data (for example the accounts).
(25
marks)

Section C
Please research the recent merger of Kraft foods Inc and J Heinz Inc. Explain what
you consider to be the key strategic benefits of this merger.
(30 marks)

The assignment should be a Word format document.

Assessment Marking Scheme

The assignment is marked out of 100. The following table shows the mark
allocation and the approach required.

A

Mark
40

Approach
You will need to calculate a number of
ratios, not all of which you will submit. You

BPP University Business School: September 2015

30

30

Total

will need to decide which ratios require

analysing and explanations. This is unlikely
to be more than 4 or 5. Marks will only be
awarded for the plausible explanation of
appropriate ratios. For example, it would
not be appropriate to explain movements in
ROCE, ROI and ROE: select the investment
return most appropriate to the
circumstance. Similarly an explanation, for
example, of payables days increasing by 2
days is unlikely to require explanation. You
should also briefly justify your choice of
benchmark business.
You will notice that few marks are available
here for the actual calculation. What is
more important is your explanation of
which inputs you have used and how you
have sourced them. For example, when you
select a gilt rate you will need to justify why
you have picked, say a one day rate rather
than a 30 year rate. Please note how many
marks are available for explanations and
submit a suitable level.
You will need to provide evidence of
researching the deal from a variety of
sources. Your opinion needs to be
supported with evidence (duly referenced).
However do not fall into the trap of allowing
the sources dictate the structure of your
answer. Paragraphs of unrelated points will
not attract high marks. You should let your
explanation structure the answer, not your
research.
