Manila Electric Company

The Manila Electric Company, or Meralco, is the Philippines' largest distributor of electrical
power. The company holds the power distribution franchise for some 22 cities and 89
municipalities, including the capital city of Manila, as well as for the cities of San Juan, Las
Pias, Quezon, Malabon, Makati, Caloocan, Pasay, Mandaluyong, Paranaque, and Navotas.
Meralco's 25-year franchise for these markets, awarded in 2003, gives the company control of
the energy distribution services for an area of more than 9.3 thousand square kilometers and a
population of more than 19.7 million--one-fourth of the Philippines' total population. The
company boasts a coverage rate of more than 97 percent, the highest in the country. Each year,
Meralco sells more than 23 million megawatt-hours (MWH), with residential and commercial
sales each contributing roughly 35 percent, and industrial sales adding 30 percent. Formerly a
power producer, Meralco purchases its power requirements primarily from government-owned
National Power Corporation; since the beginning of the 2000s, however, the company has begun
to purchase electricity from a number of newly established independent power producers,
helping to lower its prices. Meralco also has started to diversify its operations in response to
the deregulation of the Philippines power industry by extending into power generation, industrial
construction and engineering, and other areas, including real estate development, e-commerce,
and consultancy services. Meralco is led by Chairman and CEO Manuel M. Lopez, whose
family, through direct and indirect holdings, retains control of some 25 percent of the company.
The Lopez family, one of the country's most prominent, also controls conglomerate Benpres
Holdings and other businesses.

SPINNR, the Philippines first-ever music streaming service powered by wireless services leader
Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), was recently recognized for being the Best Content
Service in Asia during the recent Asia Communication Awards (ACA) 2014.
PINNR Product Manager Lucille Tang receives the Best Content Service award for SPINNR
during the Asia Communication Awards ceremony held at the Conrad Centennial Hotel in
Singapore last June 19, 2014.

Barely a year old, SPINNR was deemed the most outstanding entry by a mobile network in the
Best Content Service category for ACA 2014, which recognized the best content-based service
that addresses demand for content service needs of its end-users.
SPINNR is a homegrown Filipino music portal and mobile streaming service that enables Smart,
Talk N Text, and Sun Cellular subscribers to download and stream millions of songs for as low
as P2.50 per day or P49 a month without additional data charges.
"We are honored to receive the Best Content Service award from the ACA, which reaffirms our
commitment to delivering unique, relevant, and affordable services like SPINNR to millions of
subscribers nationwide," said Mellissa Limcaoco, Innovation and Product Development Head at
Smart. With this recognition, SPINNR subscribers can expect more exciting innovations and
exclusive perks that will deliver on our promise to provide the total music experience to all our
users.

Best-value music service

Since its launch in October 2013, SPINNR has revolutionized the music consumption habits of
Filipinos nationwide by introducing music streaming to the mainstream market through its very
affordable package offers.
At the price of just about two SMS per day, Filipinos now have access to a vast collection of
music tracks that they can stream to their smartphones via the iOS and Android apps and via the
Web throughwww.spinnr.ph.
Just a few years ago, music streaming was not a familiar concept among most Filipino music
lovers. With SPINNR, Smart has paved the way for more fans to affordably enjoy music
anytime, anywhere without worrying about the limited storage space on their mobile devices,
Limcaoco added.
According to a recent survey by Boston-based mobile technology firm JANA, SPINNR is the
most preferred music streaming service in the Philippines with 32% of survey respondents
saying they use the app to listen to music on their smartphones.
But more than providing affordable music streaming to users, SPINNR also brings fans closer to
their music idols by bringing the worlds best musical acts to the country, including the likes of
Rihanna, OneRepublic, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and, most recently, Grammy Award-Winning
Country Pop Singer Taylor Swift.
Through these concert events, fans are able to get rare and sought-after merchandise of their
favorite acts and even get the chance to meet and greet them in person, all because of SPINNR.
Fans can even extend these experiences by downloading the songs, viewing exclusive videos,
and even making the songs as their phones ringback tunes through SPINNR.
Organized annually by London-based industry publication Total Telecom, the ACA recognizes
outstanding performance by Asian carriers, multimedia content providers, vendors, and other
communication service providers.
During the ACA awarding ceremony held last June 19, Smart also bagged the Best Place to Work
award, which was based on the results of a survey conducted by the ACA among employees of
different companies in the region.
