ENG 1 E-4R
Si Kevin by Aria Marie Levine
Withered Traces of Memory
Being a typical romantic novel, the author embellished its narrative with
unexpected plot twist and revelation in order to depart from the conventional way. With
the fate of the characters in her dictation, the writer possessed the authority. Si Kevin was
a glimpse of the incapability of an individual over the will of life. Shan, who devoted her
skill in sketching an unknown man she named as Kevin, was astounded when she
encountered him in reality. As she was infatuated with him, she never thought of him
having special fondness for her. However as his true identity was unveiled and her
memory back, she was coerced to yield and accept what was at hand.
The protagonist would always found herself drawing the same face of Kevin in
different positions and in all sorts of expression. She believed that she had met him
although he would only appear in her dreams like the one in which they were at the beach
delighted with the waves that tossed their bodies. To realize him as her professor, named
as Sir Dylan, left her in great disbelief. The failure of her coordination was intensified by
her overwhelming feelings for him. Nonetheless her unusual behavior had captured his
interest manifesting her presence. Chance, on the other hand, would deliberately convene
their paths towards each other. For instance, the unanticipated meet at the bookstore
where they had a brief chat that established their friendship.
Given their distinction, Shan hindered her reverie of having a more profound
relationship to her professor. Just as when she was comfortable at his acquaintance, she
unearthed that he also had the same sentiment for her which was improbable. The onset
was when Sir Dylan lend her a book while she would bestow him his portrait she drew
herself upon returning. Shan became vigorous to complete reading a book since when she
borrowed another, she would receive personal messages from him enclosed in its cover.
Until the professor requested for a tryst where both confided that developed into a more
harmonious rapport.
Not long were they able to conceal the truth between them that they intended to
inform Shans mother. However when she was about to introduce him to her mother, she
suddenly sobbed and enclosed him in her arms. She confessed that he was her long lost
brother, Andrei. At first, Shan was in delirium but later her memory was unconstrained.
The dream in which they were at the beach was when Andrei saved her from being
engulfed by the sea , and in turn, he was lost. As a result of the incident, she developed a
trauma and started to draw the face of his brother.
The exquisiteness of the story was at the power of the author. She was considered
as the brain who thought of what was to be done and created a diverse world as a product
of her imagination. The novel was a proof of an individuals inability to discern what the
future holds. Though we acted on our own, the fact that we were a mere follower of what
the fate ordained us was undeniable. However, we must wholly recognize the reality

because nature knew what would be finest for us just like the character, pleased that at
least she already learn who was Kevin.
