cousins who were caught
at the Nagpur airport early on
Saturday for allegedly planning to join the ISIS Islamic
terrorist outfit.
Of the three, two are engineering students and were
among the four caught by the
police last September in Kolkatta while they were planning to sneak into Bangladesh

HYDERABAD:
HYDERABAD: In yet another as-

sertion of its resolve, the

Transport Department of Telangana launched another
drive to implement section
129 of the Motor Vehicles Act
that makes it mandatory for
two-wheeler riders to wear
helmet.
Over a period of four hours,
special teams of Transport officials branched off around
the busy Khairatabad traffic
junction on roads leading to
the Legislative Assembly,
Punjagutta and the State Road
Transport Department headquarters, catching two-wheelers sans helmets unawares.
Joint Transport Commissioner (Hyderabad) T. Raghunath
said 101 cases were booked,
including a challan for a fine
Rs. 100 and a warning that repeat offences could even lead
to cancellation of licences.
Mr. Raghunath said that although several attempts over
the years to implement the
MV Acts provisions on helmets had led to nought, it was
in the best interests and safety
of two-wheeler users that the
department was striving to
improve awareness. The
drive would be proportionate
to the disinterest that road users showed towards using helmets, he stated.

Slum-free Hyderabad remains a slogan: LS

SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT
HYDERABAD: Promises of a clean

have remained mere slogans
despite the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation
(GHMC) spending close to
Rs.4,200 crore in the last few
decades, the Lok Satta GHMC
unit alleged here on Sunday.

the funds all these years, the

the slums and make the city

HCA infighting takes ugly turn

V. V. SUBRAHMANYAM
HYDERABAD: The infighting in the
Hyderabad Cricket Association
took an ugly turn when two of
its three Executive Committee
members suspended from attending the emergency EC
meeting convened by president
Arshad Ayub on Sunday, staged
a rasta roko at the Rajiv Gandhi
Stadium (Uppal) forcing the
HCA chief to face embarrassing
moments outside the main gate
of the venue.
Three members Chitti Sridhar, Babu Rao Sagar and R.M.
Bhaskar were suspended by
the HCA.
When Sridhar and Babu Rao
tried their best to enter the
meeting hall they were prevented by the officials and the cops
from doing so. They later staged
a sit-in stating that the suspension itself was undemocratic as
they came to know about it from
the notice board on reaching the
venue. This is ridiculous and
we want to know what crime we
had committed other than seeking clearing of dues to the staff
who were not getting salaries

Two suspended EC
committee
members stage
rasta roko, giving
embarrassing
moments to the
HCA chief
for the last three months and also seeking transparency in the
financial transactions, Mr
Chitti Sridhar said.
One of the EC members who
attended the meeting stressed
that it was an emergency one
which was convened by the
president using his discretionary powers to discuss the minutes of the last meeting, pass the
accounts and other related subjects. But since the members
felt they did not have time to
study the statement of accounts
by internal auditors, they would
prefer another meeting to debate that and it was agreed upon
by the top brass, he said on condition of anonymity. These
three EC members were
warned against bringing disre-

pute to the HCA as they are also

part of the committee by their
actions like going to media and
abusing the officials. Since, we
had no other option, we suspended them yesterday within
the framework of the HCA constitution, insists Arshad Ayub.
Interestingly, the BCCI only a
couple of days ago released Rs. 8
crore as part payment of the annual grant due to the HCA for
the current financial year.
Meanwhile, a senior official of
the HCA insisted that they were
not bankrupt as was being projected reminding that for each
Board match it was to get Rs. 1
lakh per day and having hosted
200 match-days, they should get
that amount and also the IPL
amount also very soon.
Yes, it is a fact that the BCCI
will not release funds that easily
anymore but since we have submitted audited statement of accounts revealing the expenses,
we are confident of getting what
is due for us, he said. If some
disgruntled elements prefer to
make noise and try to grab attention, we can only pity them,
he said.
