Steven Lacey, writer for Climate Progress, reported a

sixty-story geyser of oil dumping over 20,000 gallons

of oil onto North Dakota soil. Not surprisingly this is
only one of the 12 spills that the keystone pipeline had
in its first year of operation. Now TransCanada, the
company that built and maintains the Keystone pipeline
system, is proposing a larger pipeline that will transport
over 200,000 more barrels of oil per day. Most of you,
however, already have your minds made up about the
Keystone XL pipeline. 90% of you said you disagreed
with building KXL. But dont worry, TransCanada
promises this one will be better.

three states alone, the pipeline would cross 1,073
rivers, lakes, and streams, including the
Yellowstone River in Montana and the Platte

acres of wetlands. It would also run within a mile

of more than 3,000 wells that provide drinking and

irrigation water in those states.

ETHAN ACRONYM

Each step we take toward building the Keystone

Pipeline is a step backwards for Americas reliance on
fossil fuels. This is the main reason we shouldnt build
the keystone XL pipeline. We cant risk more harm to
the environment. Spills are inevitable. We can only
hope they dont happen In biologically rich areas. It
wont significantly help our economy and it could
possibly make that worse too. Last, bringing more oil
into our country will just make us more reliant on fossil
fuels and consequently decrease out energy security.
