Preface
In everyday life, we do not always get the chance to record - in photo - those
stunning moments that remain embossed in our memories forever.
Wouldn’t it be perfect if we could somehow let the other person know the
exact depth of our emotions during these moments – in words?

Haiku is a poetic art form from the land of the rising sun, which attempts to
do exactly that – usually in three simple lines. The utter simplicity, and the
wonderful irony and contrast that is evident in them, is what attracts me to
this minimalistic art form.
Here, you will find my first attempts at writing Haiku. The more I read on the
subject, the more these attempts seem inadequate. I am going ahead and
publishing them to do justice to the hours spent in idyllic settings and in
tranquil moods, and also to have a foundation or a pedestal from where to
write better Haiku. As always, I will live and learn.

I thank you, dear reader, for taking time out to read these Haiku.

I would like to suggest that you read each one of them slowly, savor them as
you would a piece of dark chocolate, and let the meaning, irony/contrast
soak into you. Haiku is such that it will be understood differently by different
people depending on their experiences and their present mood.
A Haiku should be read like a picture or a painting, that is to say, it’s a very
visual art form. As in a picture, there are many layers that are subtly inter-
woven in the basic fabric of the poem.

I would also like to thank nature for being cordial enough to entice me,
seduce me and lure me into a state of mind where writing these Haiku
became possible. I must say, it put on a spectacular show!

For That and For Everything Else.

Thank You.

Rohit Nalluri.
