PULPING OF

PINEAPPLE LEAVES
(Ananas comosus) AS
PAPER BAG
Statement of the Problem

This study will determine the effectiveness of the three treatments in

making paper bags and which of it will fit the desired properties of paper
bag namely, tensile strength test, tear index test, and cob test (water
absorbency).
Specifically, this study seeks to answer the following questions:

1. What is the mean tensile strength capacity among the three treatments (fresh,
mid-dry, and dry pineapple leaves paper)?
2. What is the mean capacity of water absorbency among the three treatments
fresh, mid-dry, and dry pineapple leaves paper)?
3. Is there any significant difference between the mean tensile strength capacity
among the three treatments (fresh, mid-dry, and dry pineapple leaves paper)?
4. Is there any significant difference between the mean capacity of water
absorbency among the the three treatments (fresh, mid-dry, and dry pineapple
leaves paper)?
Findings
Through the conduct of the various aforementioned tests, the
researchers established the following results:
1. The pineapple leaves fibre is suitable for paper production and if
added with Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) yields a strong tensile strength
capacity.
2. Using three different treatments yields different type of papers with
different water absorption and tensile strength capacity.
3. Among the three treatments, the paper made out of dry pineapple
leaves paper demonstrates a high tensile strength capacity.
4. The tensile strength has a significant difference between the mean
capacity of Tensile Strength
5. The water absorbency capacity has no significant value between the
mean difference of water absorbency capacity.
Conclusions
1. Pineapple Leaves can be used in paper production particularly in
paper bags.
2. When added with Sodium Hydroxide, it improves the separation
of cellulose from its leaves and eliminate other foreign materials.
3. The paper made out of Dry Pineapple Leaves has the higher yield
capacity in tensile strength which is suitable for paper production.
4. The value of mean significance of water absorbency capacity
shows no significant
5. Adding waste paper to the pineapple paper mixture strengthens
the quality of paper as it has a cellulose content like pineapple
leaves
Recommendations
After the conclusions of answers based from the findings of the study,
the researchers recommended the following:
1. Use larger dimension for the testing specimen to ensure the quality of
specimen.
2. Use a banana stem fibers as a comparison or another mixture which
can be added to a paper mixture made out pineapple leaves paper.
3. Conduct an Air Permeability to determine its ability of the paper to
pass the air due to its porous structure.
4. Use different methods to come up with different products, food
packaging, cups, and other packaging with the use of bio-coating.
5. Conduct grease-proof level test which is use against penetration of
fat, oil, and wax.
