Lesson 3: The Science Process Skills and Scientific Method

Science The possibility of paper out of banana bark

Investigatory
Project Title
Observation part The researchers made four tables and each table consist of three
trials. The table 1 shows that the greater the amount of banana
bark used, more banana paper produced; the table 2 shows that
the greater the time of boiling the banana bark, the finer the
banana paper is; the table 3 shows that the greater the amount of
water used in boiling the banana bark takes long time to dry the
banana paper and the table 4 shows that the longer the time of
blending the boiled banana bark, the smoother the banana paper
is.
Hypothesis 1. The amount of banana bark used can affect the number of
banana paper produced.
2. The time of boiling the banana bark has an effect to the quality
of banana paper.
3. The amount of water used in boiling the banana bark can affect
the time to dry the banana paper produced.
4. The time of blending the boiled banana bark has an effect to
the surface texture of the banana paper.
Testing of The researchers proved that the banana bark can be an
Hypothesis Part alternative paper and is affordable than the commercial branded.

Conclusion The study was conducted so that they can produced a less
expensive paper. And using the bark of the banana plant in order
to make an alternative paper.
Science skills Observing, quantifying, controlling variables, interpreting
involved

1. Are all science skills involved in the sample science investigatory project? Why
do you think this is the case?
- No, because it doesn’t include communication. They just make paper out of
banana barks but do not have any target audiences to or any focused who is
going to benefit more of the said paper.

2. Why do you think Scientific Method is being emphasized in every grade level?

- student learns in a creative way, sometimes in different way but this scientific
method which includes observation, hypothesis, testing your hypothesis greatly affects
and contributes to their learning. And as all of these was done in action they can
actually think of the conclusions.

3. What Science Skills do you usually apply?

- I always observe before I do new things, observing first makes me do thing

correctly also in a nice manner or way. I always observe before I make a move, and that
helps me in doing my works and things well.
