Game Commentary
Submitted by Doug Klein: For the 2nd time in less than 48 hours Pine Creek relied on a goal late in the 2nd half to secure a 1-0 win. On this
windy afternoon at District-20 Stadium it was Liberty's Lancers who fell to the Eagles; with the victory Pine Creek wins the Colorado Springs
(5A) Metro League title outright for their 2nd consecutive undefeated league run and championship (8-0-0 League, 13-2-0 Overall).

This concludes the regular season for both squads and while the Eagles are assured of the top seed out of the league for the State playoffs, the
Lancers must now watch scores for the remainder of the league matches before finding out whether they will enter the tournament as the 3rd, 4th or
5th seed from the conference.

The Lancers played the game like a team desperate to secure the higher slot as they outshot Pine Creek 8-5. Liberty nearly went on top mid way
through the 2nd half when junior scoring leader, Cate Parchinski, rocketed a ball from 25 yards out targeted for the top shelf; Eagle keeper, Carmen
McDermott, timed her leap perfectly to deflect the ball over the crossbar. For McDermott (0GA, 8SV, 80 Min, 8th Shutout), who already owns all
Pine Creek goalkeeping records, she set another milestone by recording her 300th career save, the only keeper in Pine Creek history to accomplish
this feat.

The deadlock lasted until the 78th minute when junior defender, Kim Kogler, stepped into the mix after an Eagle direct kick was deflected around
the box, Kogler picked up the loose ball 22 yards out and drilled the shot into the net above the outstretched arms of Liberty netminder, Courtney
Smith (1GA, 4SV, 80 Min).

Pine Creek came into the week ranked 5th in the State (Denver Post/9 News poll); with wins over 4th ranked Air Academy and completing the
undefeated league campaign against Liberty, the Eagles are hopeful of a top 4 seed in the tournament when the pairings come out Sunday. That
would give Pine Creek the chance to maintain home field advantage for the first three rounds before the playoffs move to neutral sites.
