Mineral Wool (IS 8183) : Def- Mineral wool made from rock, slag or glass
processed from molten state into fiber form
Glass wool
Due to lack of awareness Mineral wool in India is perceived only as Slag wool
irrespective of brand or technical specification. So in tender specifically Glass wool
should be mentioned to avoid any other type of Mineral wool. Whenever Mineral wool
wool is mentioned contractors go for slag based cheap products only to reduce cost
and hence dilute the specification.

Inference: (1) To have same thermal property Rock wool require at least 3X more density
than Glass wool. (2) 18% higher thermal resistance than Rockwool with 50% less
density/mass with Glass wool
