The book title: The Invisible Man
Author biography: Herbert George Wells was born in 1866.

in Bromley, England. The family's

financial situation meant that Wells had to work from the age of fourteen to support himself through
education. His success at school won him a free place to study at a college of science in London, after
which he became a science teacher. His poor health made life difficult. He struggled to keep his fulltime job while trying to write in his spare time. He married twice. By 1895 Wells had become a fulltime writer and lived comfortably from his work. He travelled a lot and kept homes in the south of
France and in London, where he died in 1946. Wells wrote about 40 works of fiction and collections of
stories; many books and shorter works on political, social and historical matters; three books for
children, and one about his own life. His most important early works established him as the father of
science fiction and it is for these books that he is remembered. Best known are The Time Machine
(1895), The Invisible Man (1897), The War of the Worlds (1898) and The First Men in the
Moon (1901).

Main theme
This book tells a story of Griffin, a scientist that managed to create a potion that made him invisible
and his madness which came out of his amazing discovery.

Summary of content
One day, a mysterious man that is wrapped up in clothes arrives in the village of Iping. He rents a
room inside the inn called Coach and Horses. He acts extremely unusual towards people he meets,
especially his innkeepers Mr. Hall and Mrs. Hall. The next day, a few boxes arrive for the mysterious
man. The boxes contained various types of bottles. He experiments with these bottles and occasionally
breaks them. One day he uncovers his transparent hand to a local doctor, which causes many rumors in
the village. On one night, a break in happens in the village. People accuse the mysterious guest. The
guest uncovers his true ability and causes a big fight in the inn. He gets away. His precious books
containing his secrets and his clothes are still in the inn. He gets them with the help of a local called
Mr. Marvel. He threatens Mr. Marvel and talks him into doing such an act. They cause a mess in the
village and then they escape into another village. Mr. Marvel runs away from the mysterious man with
the help of the locals. The mysterious man gets shot by the locals and seeks help from his local friend,
Dr. Kemp. The doctor helps him, but soon realises that the man is dangerous. He asks the local Col.
Adye for help. They soon commence a manhunt for the Invisible Man. They end his madness after he
tries to kill Dr. Kemp.

Analysis and Evaluation of the Book

I find this book very interesting and it brought many thoughts into my mind. The main character The
Invisible Man is a scientist that studied in London. His real name was Griffin. He was really poor,
especially when he actually discovered his greatest invention, a potion that made him invisible. He had
to run away from his father and his laboratory. He was a man with normal human needs, just invisible.
He needed clothes, food and water which was really important while he was hunted later in the book.
He tried to cover his body with clothes, fake hair and nose to blend with the people. He did not want to
be discovered. He was a very rude and uncommunicative man. He barely talked to others and he
actually often talked to himself. He always wore his coat and his hat, even inside. He had bandages
over his head and only his bright pink nose could be seen. He often used his ability to slip away from
situations that are bad for him. For the man who stood there shouting was a man up to the shoulders,
and then nothing! . He managed to escape the inn when almost the whole village came there to see
him unveil his secret. Though he couldve been successful, he picked the wrong path and turned to
criminal. That was his eventual downfall. He threatened Mr. Marvel, a local tramp and talked him into
getting his books for him. If you struggle any more, said the Voice, Ill throw this stone at your head
Together, The Invisible Man and Mr. Marvel travelled to another town where Mr. Marvel managed to
escape. He hid in the inn called Happy Cricketers. The Invisible Man, furious at Mr. Marvel tried to
break in the inn, but he got wounded by a man inside the inn. The Invisible Man seeks help from a
local doctor named Kemp which is also his old friend. Kemp and Griffin went to the same school
together and Kemp was an older student. Griffin managed to explain Kemp his theory and his
discovery which was truly brilliant, but on the other hand Griffin showed Kemp his true nature. He
was planning to rule cities and places by force. He started mentioning murders which was terrible for
the old doctor. . The point is this: they know as well as we do that there is an Invisible Man and that
Invisible Man, Kemp, must now start to rule by terror. The doctor realised that Griffin has gone mad
and he seeked help from the police and Colonel Adye. They began a literal manhunt. They gave
directions to the villagers and tried to cut the Griffin out of any food or water. Griffin marked Doctor
Kemp as his first target. On his way, he murdered the Colonel, one more innocent man and hurt a lot
of people and children. Griffin died when he jumped on Kemp, hoping hell choke him but the
villagers helped. I think this book is really good and young adults can learn a lot from it, especially
the fact that people with great power should be responsible for it and not use it for the wrong purposes.
