Task 2.

Please, add your reports to the comments. The deadline is 21 p.m. Monday,
November, 29
You can find all the necessary information about reports in the attachments.
The 1st attachment includes some brief information about writing a report, 2
sample reports and a table with possible grades. Please, be sure to study this
information carefully before writing your own report.
The 2nd attachment presents the task for you.
A report schould normally include about 180-220 words.

Task 2.
The deadline then will be tomorrow (December,3) 9 a.m.

Tatyana Afanasyeva's
Class

You are the secretary of the Sports Club at an international college in New
Zealand. The club would like to make some improvements and needs financial
help from the college. The college Principal, Dr Parker, has asked you to write a
report on the club. Some of the students have given you their views.
Read the advertisement for the club and comments from the students below.
Then, using the information appropriately, write a report for the Principal,
suggesting what changes you would like to make and why and persuading him
to contribute some money towards these changes.
The advertisement for Riverdale College Sports Club:
Badminton
Squash
Climbing Wall
Fitness Room
Social Events
Mon Fri 5p.m. 10 p.m.
Students comments:
- Nowhere to have a drink, to relax
- Fitness room always overcrowded
- Showers always broken
- I can only come at weekends
- Organised classes?

Now write your report for the Principal, as outlined above. You should use your
own words as far as possible.

Dear friends!
Here are some brief comments on the most common mistakes in the reports youve
submitted so far (the1st one about the Careers Conference and the 2d one about
Riverdale College Sports Club). The comments concern only those reports, which
havent been discussed in class.
Your Careers Conference reports (some points to work on):

The improper form of address (use Dear Sir or Dear Madam, if you

dont know the recipients name and in this case you have to end the letter Yours
faithfully. If you begin with a name (Dear Mr Brown/Mrs White, end with Yours
sincerely (both Yours faithfully and Yours sincerely should be followed by a
comma). In both cases after the formal ending you should write your name and
surname below).

Falsifying or misunderstanding the information given in the task ( for

ex.: because of the lack of time not all questions were answered
(Ekaterina Buchalova) (because there were not enough experts to answer all of
them). the experts were always available to give advice (Lorce Palych).
One of the imperfections of the Conference was that the experts were not
always available to give advice since there were not enough of them.

No paraphrase of the information given in the task. Sometimes lifting

the phrases from the input material, which is not advisable.(for ex.: many
talks were good ; the exhibition was great (Dima Korostylev).
talks on a wide range of careers.. (Lorce Palych).

Partial misunderstanding of the task. According to the task, you are to

write a report to the College Principal, explaining how useful the Conference
was and making recommendations for the future. Since you address your report
to your College Principal, the recommendations should concern his future
possible actions (for ex.: what students it would be better to send there next time,
from what departments and so on) The recommendations and occasional
comments you made about how to improve the conference (though often logical,
interesting and well-grounded) would be more relevant for the conference
organizers than your own College Principal).

Occasionally inappropriate register and format. All informal or

relatively informal words , expressions and comments should be avoided (fro ex.
this very conference (Dima Korostylev). without anymess (Olga
Chekhovskaya).
Since a report is a very impersonal piece of writing, you should avoid expressing
personal opinions or feelings. Its also advisable to avoid making very definite
statements and not to be judgmental. For ex.: there were some drawbacks
which are necessary to be improved; Undoubtedly; advantages,
disadvantages, drawbacks, bad points (Lorce Palych). negative
moments; Of course (Irene Gridasova). a bit useless (Olga

Chekhovskaya).

Some of the statements sound proofless , not convincing or too

general. For ex.: the conference was aimed to inform and impress science
students than language, history students or musicians(Dima Korostylev).
Why did you make such a conclusion? What made you think so?Careers
Conference was extremely useful (Ekaterina Bukhalova) In what way was it
useful? How did it help the students from your college? this conference was
more helpful to the students of scientific departments than to others (Irene
Gridasova) How can you prove it?
When stating something, you have to prove your point of view and be very
specific (avoid general, proofless statements) about it in order to convince the
target reader. Therefore, its advisable to invent dates, numbers, refer to some
researches, surveys(you can think them up) when it comes to your arguments.
This may help you to make them sound more convincing.

Task 3 (proposal)

Some general information about writing a proposal:

How proposals are similar to reports
Proposals should be considered as very similar to reports. They should be very logical,
with a good organization of ideas and use of linking devices (in terms of, as far as
smth. is concerned, firstly, secondly, in addition and etc.) and paragraph headings ( the
proposal should be organized into logical paragraphs with relevant headings). A
proposal should include about 180-220 words.
How proposals are different from reports
The difference with proposals is that whereas reports deal with past or present events,
proposals focus on the future, in particular recommendations for action or
discussion.
Because of this recommending element, while reports are normally impersonal
(typically the passive instead of I and we), in proposals I or we are needed.
So, depending on the target reader, the register can be formal (if you address some
official, your principal, etc.) or reasonably informal (for example, if you are a
member of a college club and you address its secretary, who is, supposedly, your peer,
any register would be appropriate). The important thing here is whatever register you
have chosen, it should be consistent throughout the proposal, there should be no
switching between the styles.

Some tips about writing a proposal:

Read the task carefully. Dont change or falsify the information, given in
the task.

Plan your answer, selecting appropriately from the information in the input
material. Remember, sometimes its not necessary to use all the input
information (besides, if there are too many points to comment on, you may join
similar ones), because the answer in this case can exceed the word limit
substantially.

Expand on some points in the input material, adding relevant

information of your own

Use an appropriate register consistently.

Dont lift whole phrases from the input material. Rework them instead
into original language.
Here is a model of a proposal:

Here is the task for you. You should write a proposal (180-220 words) with
regard to the information in the task. The deadline for this task is 22 p.m.
Monday, December,6.

Dear students,
Here is a new task for you. You should write a proposal with regard to the
information in the task. The deadline for this task is 23 p.m. December, 9.
You should also grade the proposal on this topic, which is below the task
itself. (The table with possible grades is in the 1st attachment) Justify your
opinion briefly (several sentences) and add your comments on this
proposal.

Dear Club President,

As it is supposed to be the first Arts Magazine for students we should pay a lot of
attention to its format, including different aspects of our club life, which are as follows.

Film Reviews
That appears to be known to everyone in town that our local cinema weekly presents such
entertaining and exciting films like A New Moon or Alone at Home which attract not only
cinema-lovers, but even those who only come to like this kind of art. It happens as the
plots turn out to be catching and extraordinary. One cant remain indifferent. That would
be reasonable enough to include substantial reviews.

Local Events
It goes without saying, local events concern everyone for no one can ever remain
indifferent to the happenings or occasions which are easily available for the inhabitants of
our town, both young and not very. I believe the art exhibition in town Hall which takes
place from Monday till Friday (opening hours from 10 a.m. till 6 p.m.) will enjoy a great
popularity with grown up art lovers. Kids with their parents are sure to be attracted to the
circus in Wigmore Park as the statistics proved judging by previous years.

,
Everyday club activities should be undoubtedly reflected in the first issue of the Arts
Magazine. It will bring more participants and ideas as to improve our club work. Our
intention to see a musical in London is going to be great, I bet! Why not make a full review
of it? More than that, the coming New Year celebrations with Santa Clause and SnowMaiden (brought from Russia) is to be a great thing, the Russian samovar and later Troika
(a three-horse open sleigh) riding. All that is worth finding reflection in the issue.

Interviews
I succeeded in contacting Hadley Norris who, indeed, is awfully pressed for time.
Nevertheless, he was so kind as to promise to give us invitations to the Art Museum,
where he is a curator. As for Audrey Perham, an actor we had a very lively conversation in
which he promised to come to our club after his tour of Europe. He seems to be a very
versatile man.

Conclusion
To sum it up, we should have columns with Film Reviews, Local Events, Club Activities,
Interviews which will ensure the successful activity of our club.

Sincerely yours,
Vicky

Dear Club Editor,

According to the discussion held among the members of our Art club we agreed on some
points to include in the first issue of our new monthly magazine The Students Life. The
topics which might be interesting for students are as follows.

Reviews
As any well-established magazine The Students life should correspond to some
educational purpose and reveal some information from art and literature. Derek Turner,
both a member of our Club and a bookshop assistant, is able to give the reviews on the
latest three art history books, which are in great demand of the students from the College
of Visual Arts.
According to the statistics 76% of people who go to the cinema are students. That is why
we include some reviews of the films which are on at our cinemas. It would be helpful for
them to be aware of the latest blockbusters and to know the time of the sessions and all

possible discounts.

Activities and events

In order to enrich students moral and cultural values we present a program of attending
art exhibition in Town Hall on Saturday and circus in Wigmore Park on the next weekend,
and a trip in London next month to enjoy the musical Cats.

Interviews
We cant do anything without a gossip column or something of that kind, but we just do it
in a proper way. Talking about a well known actor Audrey Perham, we include the
information about her busyness with preparations to the new play where she takes the
main part.

Competitions
To wind up the first issue and motivate students to get the next edition we put some tasks
at the end, such as writing compositions and different quizzes on the topic of the cartoons
and action films which would run on the holidays. Four students who would be most
creative get tickets for the play with Audrey Perham that I managed to get from her while
asking for an interview.
Conclusion
So, to my mind we managed to include cultural and educational aspects, alongside with
local events and even entertainments in our first issue. I hope it would be a success.

Regards,
Natalia Ilina

As for the grade of the proposal on the same topic mentioned above, I would stop on the
band 3. Firstly, I didnt manage to find the target reader (an editor or the president of the
club) there, I mean some formal marks. The next thing is that the information and ideas
are not always logically organized as the writer always switches from one topic to another.
But actually I think it is a good one as the structure on the whole is acceptable.

As far as the sample proposal is conserned, i would give 2 for it, since the information and
ideas are not to the point.an interview with Audrey Perham, the actor who lives near the college, too much
information reviewed in the paragraph Reviews. The range of structures and vocabulary
is limited. The introduction and conclusion are too short and they dont include all the
information needed. The general effect, prodused by this proposal is a bad one.

Dear Mr. Brown,
The first issue of an arts magazine for students is going to be printed out this month. So,
we should do our best and attract students for the magazine to be interesting and popular
with them. The following topics are target to that aim.
Film Reviews
I guess we should write about the films which are to appear on the screens. For example
Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows, Rapuncel, Chronicles of Narnia and many others.
More than that a special discount system should be mentioned.
Events and Activities
Unfortunately many events remain unheard and to rectify that we should provide students
with information about exhibitions, concerts, meetings, etc. which will take place in the
nearest future. It may be interesting to get to know about the opening of a circus in
Wigmore Park on 20th of December or about Art exhibition on 15th of December.
New Year Celebration
It happens so that our magazine appears before winter holidays and thats why we
shouldnt ignore New Year. We can write about preparations to it, gifts and various types
of leisure activities during that time.
Conclusion
The first addition of a magazine is a very perturbing and serious moment and I hope it will

be a success.

Irene Gridasova

Dear Jack,
As it is going to be the first edition of the magazine, undoubtedly, it should be an
impressive one. I examined your ideas thoroughly, contacted with different specialists and
I consider the following aspects the best to be covered in the magazine.
Book reviews
As 80 % of the members of our Arts club are fond of the history of literature, it would be
wise, I suppose, to tell them about some books which are devoted to this subject . A good
friend of mine, Derek Turner who is the owner of the Turners bookshop agreed to provide
us with this information.
Film reviews
I should note, that 9 out of 10 students of our school stressed the fact that watching films
is still one of the most popular pastimes, so it would be interesting for them to have fresh
information about what is on in the cinemas. Especialy it is actual now, when students are
going to have their holidays. Ive contacted the manager of ABC Cinema, Peter Tulley,
and got all the brief reviews of the cartoons and action films they are going t have.
Competitions
In order to make our issues more lively, we should include, I think, some competitive
moment, such as the contest of the best piece of poetry. Last year we have such a
contest, but among only senior students, and it was a success. Now in the journal
everyone can participate and win a prize, which, in its turn could be 4 tickets to the
theatre. I can provide them, as my friend, Audrey Turner, is an actor, and he is going to
have a performance next month, on 18 December.
Local Events
My classmates often complain that they dont have enough information about the
activities, held in our area, thats why the idea of including reviews on this topic is a wise
one. This month it is desirable to be about an exhibition in town Hall, since this event will
be held for the first time in our city and just for a week. So everyone should know about it
not to forget to visit.
Conclusion
To sum it up, all the ideas suggested by me are listed according to the opinion of the
students I talked to. They are the potential readers of this magazine so if we rely on heir
opinion , I believe, this issue will be a successful one.
Yours sincerely,
Tatiana Afanasyeva

I'd like to write about some ideas, concerning the magazine and it's articles.

Reviews
It would be very nice if the readers could read through the reviews of the films, which can
be watched in our local cinema, for students to know what the film is about, whether to
visit the cinema or not.
To my mind, it is not necessary to publish books reviews since our students do not prefer
to read at all.

Events & Activities

I'd like to pay your attention to the exhibition in town Hall, which is going to present very
unique and extravagant pictures of the modern artists. More than that, there will be
arranged an open circus in Wigmore Park, with free soft-drinks and many competitions,
the winner of which will get a nice gift ( The children will be glad to visit such a place)

Interviews
I managed to talk to Audrey Perham, who is a friend of mine, but, she was not very
talkative as she was rehearsing for the next play, but, despite that she gave me four

tickets for us to watch her playing. Recently I've got an e-mail from Hadley Norris - a
curator of local art museum; he invites us in order to see the new art collection.

Conclusion
Taking into consideration all items, which have been mentioned, I believe, that the first
issue of our magazine should include: the film reviews, events and activities, which are
going to take place and the interviews from the well-known people.
Sincerely yours,
Dima Korostylev

Very soon the first edition of our monthly arts magazine for students will be published. And
in order to make it popular and demanded we should include some interesting pieces of
information. There are some of them below.
Film reviews
I suggest that it would be great PR operation to give the information about films in our
magazine, as the majority of our students are keen on watching films. IT will be fruitful to
put some information about Premier films which will be shown at our local cinemas.
Local activities
To my mind, it is of first importance that studets should be informed about the events and
activities which take place in our city. It will be interesting to know that December 17 art
exhibition is going to be in Town Hall.
Here our students can observe works of modern arts, moreover, here will be represented
the works of their contemporaries. In addition, very soon, exactly December 20, 3 p.m in
Wigmore Park there will occur the opening of a circus. Various performances with rare
animals, clowns will be presented there. I think, it's always great pleasure to relax in such
a way.
New Year activities
We should understand that our magazine will be published right before New Year and it is
necessary to put some information about the entertainment activities which will take place
during winter holidays. What's more, It would be quite good to put horoscope and some
particular things about how it will be correct to celebrate New Year in 2011.
Conclusion
The first issue is the basis for the future of our magazine, because of it the presentation,
illustration, information should be striking and informative. Everybody should find
something interesting for him personally. And the topics mentioned above are rather
suitable and eye-catching. The magazine should be a success.

Since the first issue of a art magazine for students is to be published this month, we
should grab the students' attention making them as much interested in it as possible in
order for it to be popular and well-sold. Thus the contents of it shoul include the following
points.

Film Reviews
According to the statistics, the majourity of our students spend half of their free time in a
local cinema theatre,so it would be useful to write about the films going on there this
month like "The Nutcracker and Mice King", "Chronicles of Narnia" or "Tron Legacy" and a
special discount system for students.

Events and Activities

There are many interesting events taking place in our city which are really worth
mentioning. For example,on December 12 the circus in Wigmore Park invites all guests
for its new Christmas perfomance involving some guests from France and a special fire-

show. Moreover, it would be a good idea to include a short circus quiz, the winner of which
will be able to visit the perfomance free of charge. The will also be an art exhibition in
Town Hall on 15th of December which is going to represent some joung modern artists
which can be especcially interested for students.

New Year and Christmas Celebrations

The fact that our magazine will be released just before winter holidays makes it obvious
that there should be some infrormation conserning Christmas and New Year celebrations
varying from the entertainment city during programm during the holidays to the possible
kinds of gifts and special dishes.

Conclusion
As the first magazine issue tends to define the whole its future,it should be especially
interesting, provoking and diverse to attract as many readers as possible and to make
them look forward for the next issue as well thus the topics described above will be a
success with the readers.

This month the first issue of an arts magazine for students is going to be released. As it is
the first edition, we need to draw students attention and make the magazine popular, so
some interesting and fascinating topics should be covered. They are as follows.
Film Reviews
I think it would be a great idea to include the information about films which are on this
month. The majority of students will get interested, as several good and long expected
movies were released this week. Our local movie theatre has in its repertoire such films as
Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows and the Chronicles of Narnia. Also we should tell
about discounts for students (Monday-Friday
10 a.m 5 p.m. all films except first nights at a discount of 50% for students).

Local Events
Its obvious that students should be aware of different activities which are going to take
place this month. Ive searched through the Internet and found out that December 17 art
exhibition is going to be in Town Hall. I suppose many students will find it both informative
and interesting, as famous and new unknown artists will exhibit their masterpieces there.
Thats why students can combine business and pleasure to have a good time and to buy
a painting if they want to. One more event which can awake interest is the opening of a
circus in Wigmore Park (December 20, 3 p.m). There an entertaining show is going to
take place, visitors will be able to win prizes, and also they have discounts for students.
New Year Celebration
As our magazine is going to be released just before New Years holidays, I think it would
be necessary to include the information on this topic. Some ideas about how to spend
these holidays, what dishes can be cooked, how to decorate houses. And by all means in
this rubric we should invite students to our New Years party (December 27, 7 p.m.,
assembly hall)
Conclusions
The first issue is the most important one, as the future of the magazine depends on it.
Thats why the material and the way it is presented should be perfect. I think the topics
mentioned above will be the most suitable ones and will grab readers attention.

Proposal for Improving the Library Facilities

Dear Ms. Johnson,

6 dic. 2010 Comentarios desactivados

The library at our international college is constantly visited by students, who may need a
various kind of information in the field they major and also in any other possible sphere
they are interested in. But I believe, some improvements should be made which are as
follows.

Opening hours

We should bear in mind that the opening hours should suit every students needs. I mean
the time-table differs from course to course, but the available time is the same for
everyone. So, my mind is that the working hours should be flexible. Once I happened to
come after 6 a.m. and found the door closed and, as a result, I failed to get the material.

Work space

As far as the working space is concerned, the reading hall provides enough space for its
readers. Nevertheless as everywhere there can be the so-called rush hour when the
reading-hall is overcrowded. I suggest extra space should be built to improve the library
facilities.

Resources

The resources our library contains are up-to-date, generally speaking. But the number of
those who are able to use the most recent technologies like laptops, the Internet and other
modern electronic equipment is increasing. Consequently, the library fund needs
enriching.

Conclusion

Taking all the mentioned above into consideration, we can conclude that in spite of
seemingly positive state of things, the library, being may be the most important sport to
gain knowledge, it needs special care and attention. In other words, it must be well
financed.

Faithfully yours,

Victoria Bagrayeva

Proposal on improving of library facilities

6 dic. 2010 Comentarios desactivados

Dear Ms. Johnson,

To keep a first-rate library is a significant thing for a university, because it gives the
students an opportunity to improve their skills of the future careers. Particularly nowadays
when they are needed to be made better. They are as follows.

Opening hours

I should taken notice of students need in time when they are unable to do their home
work properly since the opening hours do not let them do that. Once I got in such a
situation and realized that this problem really exists. So it is felt that the working day for

the library should be increased for 3 or even 3 hours a day.

Work space

Our library is a big one but there is not enough space for work still. A great quantity of
students spends hours reading, looking for information, searching some material. Thus
and so it would be better to assign one more room for working in the library.

Resources

All the materials kept are marked by the students as out of-date ones, thats why it would
be desirable to obtain new modern ones. In order to add even more, a special action
among the students can be held each of them can bring to the library one book of their
own.

To conclude the renewal and improvement of the library will help the students to
correspond to the modern standards of education. I am sure that it is easier to do such a
thing in well-equipped place with friendly atmosphere.

Dima Dali
Proposal for improving the library

6 dic. 2010 Comentarios desactivados

Introduction
First of all, I'd like to say, that library is one of the necessary thing in the college and, of
course, it should be somehow enriched.

Things to be developed and improved

Dear Ms Johnson, I think, that those components, which you have written and suppose
them to be prior, are too short, because I concern them to be not enough. I assent the
idea of giving opening hours for students to study, I believe, that is a good thing, when we
can come and learn something at any time we want, much work space is also fine, we,
then, can not overcrowd and mess with each other.

Resources
Frankly speaking, I do not think, that books and videos can really help the library, as many
students and I consider them to be dull and old-fashioned. I also do not understand what
did you mean, mentioning " other resources " I do not believe, that glamorous magazines
can enrich our library. The best thing which can help in improving is modern technologies,
thus IT is the point since plenty of us use it and like it.

Recommendations
I would advise you to involve as many IT as possible: computers, laptops at each working
place, so the students will not have to wait their turn to use it, e-books since they are
rather easy in use and we can have all the material in one book, and things of that kind.

Conclusion
Dear Ms Johnson, I hope you will take my notes and recommendations into account since
I'm sure, that they will make our library modern, useful and popular place to visit.
yours faithfully,

Dima Korostylev

Ekaterina Bukhalova
Dear Ms Johnson,

6 dic. 2010 Comentarios desactivados

Few colleges can offer such a library with a large choice of books and other resources.
Though in order to be up to standard in future some facilities should be improved. They
are as follows.
Work space
Though the library is rather large, there are not enough working places. Students from all
the departments often need to spend much time in the library reading up for their exams
or searching for some material for writing papers. Therefore, I suppose, it would be better
to have more reading halls.
Operating schedule
The library is open from 11 a.m. till 5 p.m. and full-time students of our college practically
have very little time to spend in the library, as studies last till 3 or 4 p.m. Moreover the
library doesnt work on weekends. Probably it would have been better if it works in the
evening also and at least on Saturdays.
Resources
Speaking about video collection, it should be said that the library has a wide selection of
video resources but they should be updated, as the majority of students think many
feature films, documentaries went out of date and the information there is often irrelevant
to suit educational purposes. Also, I would like to mention that the library lacks for audio
resources. I think they would be extremely useful for students from the department of
foreign languages.
Our library is a very important source of information and resources for students, thats why
some improvements are necessary to help students show better results in studies and in
doing their homework.
Yours faithfully,
Ekaterina Bukhalova.

Proposal on improving of library facilities
Dear Ms. Johnson,
it is very important for the university to keep its library work on the highest level, since it
enables our students to improve their self-studying skills. Especially, now, when there are
some facilities to be improved. They are as follows.
Opening hours
I should note that not once I heard from the students of our college that very often they fail
some tasks of theirs because of the short opening hours of the library. I am not an
exception, a week ago I faced this problem too. In such a way, it would be desirable for
the library to work more for 2 or 3 hours a day approximately.
Work space
In terms of the places where the students can fulfill their tasks in the library, here the
shortage of them can be noted. And this make students wait for half an hour or even an
hour to take a sit to work. I suppose, that an appropriate way out of this situation could be
joining one more room to the space of all the library, which is used now for keeping sport
equipment.
Resources
All the materials kept are marked by the students as out of-date ones, thats why it would
be desirable to obtain new modern ones. In order to add even more, a special action
among the students can be held each of them can bring to the library one book of their
own.
All in all, the improvement of the facilities of the library are certainly to influence our
students success in studying. And it will be both pleasant and useful for them to work in a
new atmosphere.

Report on the Sports Club
Dear Dr Parker,
The report is targeted at providing the informarion about the Sports Club at an
International College. It draws on the opinion expressed by the students who attended this
club.
Positive points
According to the stastics of the attendance of this club which is about 80%, it can be said

that the club is popular among the students and they appreciate a possibility of doing
sport exercises of various kinds like squash, badminton or fitness in this right place.
Points to be improved
It should be mentioned that not everything is perfect in this place and there are some
things the improvement of which can make the club more popular and in such a way give
benefits to all the college.
First, the students mentioned that after 3 or 4-hour training they have to come back
directly to the changing room without drinking some water or having a rest in a special
room. So, it would be desirable to have a special place for this, and it could be the room in
which all the equipment is held, that needs a thorough repairement. Then 8 out of ten
student stated that the days convinient for them to come in the club are weekends, so the
changing of the timetable can attract more visitors. And with this changing the forming of
special groups can be profitable- it will unite people according to their prefernces. And at
last, 10 out of 10 students called the showers the weak point of our club, since they are
always out of order, so new ones could solve this problem.
Conclusion
All in all, the club has an average grade among the students, but the position could be
obtainedwith some changes made that need finacial investing.

Careers Conference Report
The report is intended to give information on Careers Conference held in Vancouver Hall
12- 13 November and which presented over 100 jobs. It draws on the students opinion
who took part in this Conference.
Positive points
According to the made survey it was found that the majority of the students who attended
this conference marked it as a great one, pointing out at the good level of discussions on
wide range of careers. All the information presented tended to be relevant.
Points to work on and recommendations.
Despite all the success of the event, it has its weak points. Though one had a possibility to
have advice from an expert at any time, the number of them was not enough to satisfy all
the interest of the participants of the conference. In such a way, many students didnt
manage to have an answer to their question.
Next time the conference held, it would be desirable to have more specialists available
during all the event.
One more drawback which was noted by the students is that the jobs offered , were aimed
at science students primarily. And the language and history ones were paid less attention
so it would be advisable to include more varied information that can be interesting and
useful for all the participants.
Conclusions
To sum it up, the success of the Careers conference can not be exaggerated and this fact
makes us realize the necessity of holding this event annually. Though some weak points
can be observed , they are sure to be get read off and next time we can witness an
improved version of the conference which can satisfy all the needs of career oriented
students.

Report on a Two-Day Careers Conference.

3 dic. 2010 Comentarios desactivados

The aim of the report is to present information on careers conference held in Vancouver
Hall from Friday till Sunday. It is based on a survey carried out among students who
participated in it.

Positive Points
It appears that the majority of the students, who attended the conference pointed out that
the exhibition was great with its over than 100 jobs, which extremely encouraged
students. Some of the talks were both informative and substantial. It turned out that there
was a wide range of careers to follow and get prepared already at college. Sometimes the
talks were challenging and animated.

Points to Work and Recommendations

According to some students opinions there were not enough people able to answer
questions that were asked. Besides, some participants wished to have more experts
available to give proper pieces of advice on the items which are of interest.
As some of the students remarked, the Careers Conference seemed to be beneficial for
science students than language or history students. The choice of careers was much
wider.

Conclusions
To summarize all the mentioned above the conference is sure to be a success. Such
events should be arranged yearly. Young specialists and experts should be provided with
an opportunity of having talks about perspectives of future employment.

The aim of this report is to provide the students of our college in New Zealand with some
useful information. The results of this report are based on the students' views and
opinions.
Positive Points
To begin with, this Sport Club is going to include: Badminton, Squash, Climbing Wall,
Fitness Room, where all the students could cure their health and become stronger, and,
the last, but not the least - Social Events, this seems to be a good idea since plenty of
students can get new fruitful acquaintances, friendly talks and even have a great time.
Points to be improved
Despite the fact, that the Sport Club is tended to be well-organized and, as it was said
earlier, have lots of entertaining and bodybuilding things, the Club, as the questionnaire
says, has some drawbacks: It, practically, has no place, where students and attendants
could have some drinks and relax, the fitness room is often overcrowded, showers, as
students say, always broken, and it is thought to be not a very good thing and one more
matter is, that students can attend it only at weekends. There is one more thing, which is
worth mentioning - The Club needs to have organized groups since it is very convenient
and funny to train with your friends.
Conclusions
We do believe, that our Sports Club needs some capital, which could make it more
presentable, bigger and, also, it could help us to provide our club with some new
machines, showers, places to relax and more.

Dear Mr. Parker,

The report is aimed at providing essential information about the available activities in the
Sports Club of the International College in New Zealand which is open from Monday to
Friday at 5p.m- 10p.m. It presents the result of a survey made among the students who
were questioned about the conditions for taking part in sport activities and what
improvements could be made.
Positive points.
To start with, it should be pointed out that all sport lovers appreciate the kinds of sports
provided at our educational establishment. It helps to be physically fit and remain healthy.
Its a favorable way to arrange leisure time and mingle with people and even find new
friends. The variety of sport activities is large enough to suit any taste. Alongside with
training in the fitness room lots of students came to like climbing wall, squash and
badminton. Social events are extremely popular with sport lovers.
Points to be Improved.
On the other hand, the majority of students have agreed there are rather many problems
in the club concerning its equipment first of all. Some showers need repairing, thats why
there is sometimes no hot water or there were cases when they went out of order. In
addition, there is no room for having a drink and relaxation. As a result students feel
thirsty and not relaxed. What is more-the fitness room needs rearranging as it is always
overcrowded and there is no air to breath! There were suggestions to change the
timetable, including weekends for sport training. Consequently, all the above-mentioned
improvements can be made with your financial help.
Conclusions.
All in all our sport club enjoys a great popularity and it seems important to solve the
problem of financial help to improve the situation we have now. We hope to receive
support on your part.

This report is aimed to provide information on the Sports Club at our international college
in New Zealand. It is based on the results of a survey carried out among the students who
attend it.
Good points
It was found that the majority of students who attend the Sports Club enjoy it as we have a
wide range of various activities. Climbing wall and squash are particularly popular among
students. Some of them, especially females who are fond of aerobics, prefer the fitness
room. Regular social events like sports competitions between faculties of our college and
convenient operating schedule (Mon Fri 5p.m. 10 p.m.) make our Sports club
attractive in general. Though, some students mentioned that it would have been better if
we worked on weekends also.
Points to be improved
It appeared that though our Sports Club is rather big, nevertheless there is not enough
space as the number of students, who want to attend the club, is constantly increasing,
and as a result the fitness room is always overcrowded. Therefore it would be better to
have more such rooms and recreation places, where students can have a drink or relax,
are also necessary.
Curiously enough, but the showers are constantly broken and it is recommended to have
new bathroom equipment in the shower rooms. Besides we need to provide organized
classes, as it appeared that training in a group motivate students.
Conclusions
Our club is highly appreciated by students as it is a useful place to spend free time. But if
more money were contributed from the college, this could be used to improve its
conditions and thus attract more people and inspire them to be keen on sports and keep
fit.

The report is intended to provide information about the Sports Club at an international
college in New Zealand. It is based on the views of the students who were asked to give
their ideas for improvement the Club.
It appears that almost 150 students are regular customers of that place and they are really
happy to attend the Club and not to waste free time. The number of the training devices
given allows to work on diverse group of muscles which does nothing but satisfy every
attender.
It was felt still that organization was not properly thought over, as the amount of attenders
is going up and the desires are getting exacting. It was cleared up that there was no
enough room for having a rest after a hard training, the bathroom equipment is constantly
breaking down, the time for attending should be increased and it was required to have
some trainers for beginners.
One solution may be to invest more capital into this undertaking in order to make the Club
correspond to the increased needs of the attenders and these money will come back with
triple profit.
To conclude, it is everyones pleasure to have such a useful place to spend free time and
if it is decided to pay more attention to the Club and to improve it in some aspects the
attenders gratitude will be enormous one.

Report on the Sports Club

Dear Mr Parker,
This report is intended to provide information on the Sports Club working on MondayFriday at an international college in New Zealand. It draws on the results of a survey
carried out among the students who attend it.
Good points.
According to the majority of the students attending the club, it appears to provide a wide

range of facilities varying from sport activities in the fitness room to different games like
badminton or squash. The climbing wall and a convinient timetable was especially
appreciated by the students although some of them commented that it would be better for
the club to be work on weekends as well.
Points to change and recommendations
It was found out that there are constantly too many people in the fitness room and it is
recommended to open some more rooms of this kind as well as the place for relaxing and
having a drink. So it may be useful to give some money for the club for this in order to
involve more students and develop the idea of keeping a healthy way of life on the one
hand, and to make their conditions more comfortable and thus encourage their wish to go
info sports.
Strangely, the showers tend to be always broken and it would be quite advisable to offer
some money for either their reparement or buying the new ones since it is obvious that in
each fitness centre or a sport club there should be a working shower.
Conclusions
If more money was availiable, this could be used to provide organised classes as
wellwhich could make the club more interesting. To sum up, the Sports Club is quite
popular among the students though it is recommended for the college to invest some
money for serious improvements.

You are the secretary of the Sports Club at an international college in New Zealand. The
club would like to make some improvements and needs financial help from the college.
The college Principal, Dr Parker, has asked you to write a report on the club. Some of the
students have given you their views.
Read the advertisement for the club and comments from the students below. Then, using
the information appropriately, write a report for the Principal, suggesting what changes
you would like to make and why and persuading him to contribute some money towards
these changes.
The advertisement for Riverdale College Sports Club:
Badminton
Squash
Climbing Wall
Fitness Room
Social Events
Mon Fri 5p.m. 10 p.m.
Students comments:
- Nowhere to have a drink, to relax
- Fitness room always overcrowded
- Showers always broken
- I can only come at weekends
- Organised classes?

Now write your report for the Principal, as outlined above. You should use your own words
as far as possible.

Careers Conference Report

29 nov. 2010 Comentarios desactivados

The aim of this report is to provide information concerning the Careers Conference held at
Vancouver Hall on Friday-Sunday (29-31 November). It is based on the results of a survey
carried out among the students who attended.
Good points
The majority of the 80 students who attended the conference tend to consider it both
useful and informative, and they would like to see it repeated. The exhibition representing
over 100 different jobs appeared to be excellent covering various fields of work ranging
from building and construction up to medicine and industry. The talks on possible careers
were also appreciated, on the whole, though some of them were found out to be a bit
useless for humanitarian students.
Points to develop and recommendations

It was found out that in spite of the presence of avaluable experts there were not enough
of them to answer all the questions and give advice.
Thus it is recommended that the stuff working at the exhibition is taken and well-informed
at least 3 weeks before the event in future so that everything runs without any hesitation
and mess. Careers talks should be well-thought as well in order to get the audience
interested in each presentation.
Surprisingly, the conference appeared to be better for science students than humanitarian
ones as the range of careers was represented mainly by the spheres of industry and
science. One solution may be to involve more presentation connected with other spheres.
Conclusions
In case of more money given, this could be used for students to make presentations of
their achievements to increase their chances of applying to a better job.
However, in short, the Careers Conference was a great success and extremely useful.

Careers Conference Report

29 nov. 2010 Comentarios desactivados

This report is intended to provide useful information about the Career Conference hold
that week from Friday to Sunday. It is based on the results of the discussion among the
students who managed to present that conference at Vancouver Hall.
Positive points
The majority of our students about 20 people who attended the Conference can admit that
it was both interesting and informative, especially the demonstration of different kinds of
jobs, which were over 100. According to the head of our delegation, particularly important
for the students was the opportunity to discuss any problem questions with the experts
from the sphere, where student would probably work.
Points to work on and recommendations
Alongside with many positive aspects, still there are things to work on. It is recommended
that two days were not actually enough for such an event as Career Conference. There
were so many students that even experts were not enough to answer all the student
questions.
It would be advisable to invite more experts both from Natural sciences and from
humanities as that conference was a great success for science students.
Conclusion
In short, that Conference was very helpful for all the students especially for graduators,
where they managed to solve many problems concerning their future employment.

Report on Career Conference

29 nov. 2010 Comentarios desactivados

The aim of this report is to provide information on the career conference held at the
college on 19 December. It is found on the results of the review carried out among the
students who presented at it.

Positive points.
It appears that almost 200 students who attended the conference found it both interesting
and informative and that they would be eager to present at such an event again. The
selection of the exhibits chosen and careers discussed was an appropriate one. Some
talks were rather cognitive and useful for the person who needed such information for
their future career.

Points to be improved and recommendations.

It was felt that organization was not properly thought over and it is recommended that the
organizers invite more experts in the problem questions raised during the conference.
Such specialist should be properly prepared to answer any issue no matter how difficult it

could be.
Some of the discussions were devoted to the subjects which did not correspond to the
range of the students invited. One solution may be to study the classes of the guests
which were to attend beforehand and adjust the possible list of desired topics.

Conclusions.
In short, if resources were available for such an event in future, this could be very useful
to conduct a similar event. It would be also helpful to add a multimedia element with
photos and videos files to every presentation. But in spite of some shortcomings the
conference was a success and quite usable.

Report on the Careers Conference

29 nov. 2010 Comentarios desactivados

This report describes the 2-day Careers Conference held at the Vancouver Hall. It is
based on the opinions of the students who have attended it.
Positive points
It seems that all the students found it very useful and informative and they recon they will
not loose an opportunity to come there once again. More than 100 careers were exhibited
there and everyone also could talk to a real specialist in the area he/she was interested in.
more than that, 2 days were give to us to be able to cover it all.
Some negative moments and recommendations
Predictably this conference was more helpful to the students of scientific faculties than to
others. Furthermore, there were not enough people to answer the students' questions. Of
course, it should be taken into consideration, that the interest of every single student
should be satisfied.
Conclusion
On balance, the conference should attract more students and expand the quantity of the
suggested jobs. All in all, the conference was useful and successful.

29 nov. 2010 Comentarios desactivados

The aim of this report is to provide information about a two-day Careers Conference,
which was held at the Vancouver Hall. It draws on the students' opinion who presented
there.
Advantages
It appears that the majority of the students found this conference great. It was informative
and extremely instructive for them. On the whole it was exhibited over 100 various jobs,
there was a talk on wide range of careers. What is more, the experts were always
available to give advice.
Disadvantages and recommendations
Though the conference tended to be rich in discussions and also impressive, there were
some drawbacks, which are necessary to be improved.
The problem was that not every person who were to answer the students' questions was
eager to cope with it. Factually, some students such as linguist and history ones, were
bored, as this conference was mostly for science students.
So it would be advisable for the organisers to make it useful for the students of different
specializations.
Conclusions
To summarize, Career Conderence was a success. Inspite of some bad points.
Undoubtedly, It should be held every year and be available for all students.

Report on Career Conference

29 nov. 2010 Comentarios desactivados

This report is aimed to provide information on a two-day Career Conference held in

Vancouver Hall on 26 27th November. It is based on the results of the discussion among
students who attended.
Positive points.
It was found that the majority of students, who attended the Conference considered it to
be both informative and interesting. The exhibition of different jobs (over a hundred) was
impressive. Talks on wide range of careers were also of great interest, on the whole. Also

almost all the students who visited thought it was a great idea that experts in different
spheres were available to ask questions and give advice.
Points to be improved and recommendations.
It appeared that though rich of content talks on various careers were rather informative in
general, some of them turned out to be too long, and thus some students felt bored.
Besides it was evident that because of the lack of time not all questions were answered.
The organizers should have given more time for an audience questions or at least more
specialists should have been responsible for this.
Though the Conference included a great deal of information about different kinds of job,
they spoke little about the possibilities for students of language or history departments.
The majority of variants were useful for science students.
Conclusions.
If more information for students of humanities were available, it could have attracted more
people and made it more helpful for the whole audience.
However, Careers Conference was extremely useful, a lot of new things and ideas were
learnt there and it would be great to attend this event next year.

Career Conference Report

29 nov. 2010 Comentarios desactivados

The aim of this report is to describe and reveal the content of the past conference. It is
based on the results of the information, provided by the students, who attended this very
conference.
Positive points
It seemed that almost all of the students liked the conference and found it rather
informative, as many talks were good and some of the students, perhaps, found the
communication fruitful. Besides that, the exhibition was great, lots of things were observed
and it, probably, made all the attendants feel good.
Points to work out and recommendations
Despite the fact, that the exhibition was exciting and the communication was informative,
the conference could be arranged more successfully, some things should be done better
or even changed at all, for example, even the fact, that some talks were good, there could
be found some persons who did not answer the questions. Definitely, the exhibition was a
success, but still, it was found that, the conference was aimed to inform and impress
science students, than language, history or musicians.
Conclusions
In short, if such a conference is to be held one more time, it might be attended by talkative
and open-minded people, and as it is recommended, the conference should be accessible
and understandable for every type of students, but, on the whole, the conference was a
success.
