Ports and Airports

Piura has 4 airdromes besides

its airport, located in the
city.
In Piura . we also have a
seaport in the city of Paita.

PAITA
HARBOUR

North eastern
Bioceanic Corridor :
Paita, Bayvar /

Yurimaguas,
Saramirisa

Since the eighties this corridor has

been promoted as the multi-modal
transport system (by land and by river)
which, would connect the Pacific
Ocean ports with the navigable
Amazon rivers and, through them, with
Brazil and the Atlantic Ocean.
The bay of Bayvar, south from Paita,
is one of the two deep-water natural
ports that exist in Per (the other one is
San Juan de Marcona) and is meant to
be transformed, in the future, in the
most important port in the North of
Per.
The most important natural resource in
the corridor are the phosphate and
brine deposits of Bayvar. Phosphate
is the most important fertilizer for acid
and washed Amazon floors, so the
potential market is immense in Per as
well as in Brasil and in the other
Amazonian countries.

MARITIME AXIS OF THE PACIFIC

with ports in Ecuador and Colombia
on the North, and in Chile on the
South.

ANDEAN AXIS

towards human consumption as
well as towards the elaboration of
fish meal, canned and frozen
food. The most important
debarkation ports are Paita and
Sechura. (Source: BCRP).
Fishing production is located in
the provinces of Paita, Sechura
and at a lower scale in Talara.
Figures, up to the year 2001
indicate that the Region
contributed with 38% of the
fresh fish national debarkation,
80% of the resources for
freezing , 13% for fish meal
and 33% for canned goods.

Agro industrial activities are
directed towards the processing
of lemon, mango and
asparagus, being located in the
coastal areas. The presence of
companies dedicated to the
obtaining of cotton seed oil and
yarns should be highlighted.

reflected in a low milk production
(8%).
OVINES: Meat production had
seriously deteriorated up to the year
1999 and it started to recover in the
