Eve Assisted Living and Memory Care is a privately owned facility structured
to accommodate elderly individuals with proper nursing care, as well as
keeping that sense of independence in their day to day lives. The facility is
still in its early years of business, because Eve opened its doors in the month
of March, 2013. The building is located in the middle of Downtown Hinsdale,
making it a very quaint and lovely place to live for elders. The facility was
beautifully reconstructed from a nursing home (that closed down 2 years
before opening Eve) into a luxury styled assisted living with ready to live in
apartments for residents. A good amount of financial information about the
facility and its whereabouts is under Experian Information Solutions, where I
found out that the rent rate at Eve averages out to be $7,000.00/ month. The
residents have a 3 day a week available salon, a private movie theatre that
is open for use whenever they would like, a fitness gym to use at any time of
day, a calming common room that is placed near a warming fireplace, a
studio to perform different activities in, a gorgeous dining room that is
available to residents 13 hours a day, and more. The main concept of the
building is to create a comfortable environment for the residents who are
apart of Eves community and make them feel like this is their second home.
The marketing departments goal is to bring in potential residents into the
building so that all the apartments can be filled and expand Eves
community. The more residents that live in Eve means that there will be
more revenue coming through the facility, the more revenue means more
staff. And along with more staff joining the Eve team means more attentive
care to residents needs.
At the top of the management list is Executive Director, which is your
position at the company Magdalena, who focuses on the accounts and
facility concerns, as well as the employees at Eve. Then there is the business
manager, who focuses on the finances and check distribution for employees,
and also act as a human resources representative, when available. There is a
Wellness director, who handles all of the residents medical concerns,
communicating with doctors orders, and assesses potential residents before
they officially move into the facility. The wellness director is also a leader for
the day and night nurses who distribute medications to residents, as well as

is in charge of the nurses assistants who care for the residents for their day
to day needs. Eve has a marketing director, as I mentioned before, whose job
is to bring in potential residents into Eve and show them a side to Eve that
makes them want to move in as soon as possible. The marketing director
also deals with advertising the company through multiple channels and plans
events to promote the facility. There is also an activity director in both
memory care and on the assisted living side, and they are in charge of
creating schedules for residents to perform activities and go on outings, and
etc. There is a Chief Chef who handles all dietary needs and satisfactions for
the residents, and he handles budgeting for the kitchen and assist with
cooking and baking, as well as being in charge of the servers in the kitchen
and dining room. Eve donates it time to help those who need it most,
especially in the hospital environment. The activity director at Eve takes
residents, who want to help and volunteer their time, to the hospital to make
a difference in physically and mentally suffering peoples lives. They also
strive to make Hinsdale a more beautiful place by donating their time
planting flowers around the town square, which is less than a few blocks
away from the facility. Below I have provided a link the Eves website, and
feel free to peruse around and find out more about this beautiful building.
There is definitely room for improvement at Eve, especially within the
wellness department. There was inconsistencies when it came to care in the
memory care unit of Eve, and anything involving dementia, needs to be
consistent. As I observed there was inappropriate language used around the
residents at times, and as well as not engaging with the residents enough,
etc. There was a study done involving improvements in dementia care, they
interviewed caregivers in facility, like Eve, and tried different training
techniques to teach the CNAs new ways to improve care for the residents.
As they proceeded they saw why it may be hard to initially do this at other
facilities, but they saw that the studies STAR training, worked wonders on the
staff. As they said the article, Key components of STAR trainingrealistic
expectations, effective communication, pleasant events, and using the ABCs
for problem solvingwere provided in a pragmatic, practical, hands-on
approach. Learning was neither abstract nor academic. It was always tied
directly to what staff members experienced as they provided care (p. 161).
As mentioned before CNAs could be provided training for dementia care, not
simply through a computer but from hands on training. Through this research
it was found to be much more effective and useful for the overall
improvement of the companies involved, and hence it can help improve Eve
as well.
To end this memorandum, I would like to state that this facility is a beautiful
place for people to live in, as well as to be taken care of. And although that
there can obviously be improvements within the company, it still has great
potential to be one of the best assisted livings in the midwest region. And
any person would be lucky to work for this up and coming facility.
