Welcome to Jrvenp, hometown of Jean


Sibelius!
The year 2015 will mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of the
great Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. Being the hometown of
the Sibelius family, Jrvenp celebrates the occasion in many
ways:

Museum tells the story of Aino Sibelius and
highlights her significance for the art of Jean Sibelius
2015, April 19 25 2015 the III International
Sibelius Singing Competition in Jrvenp
2015, May 2 September 30 Ainola,
the home museum of Sibelius, is open
and various other events.

Jrvenp is located in the Uusimaa
province, close to the main railroad
track and two of the main motorways.
The city is an integral part of Central
Uusimaa, but at the same time it is
close to the Helsinki metropolitan area.
Jrvenp is a modern city with a
young and well-educated population.
The city is well known for its culture
and education, but also for high-tech
metal industry. Cultural industry is on
the rise.

Active trade and industry


Jrvenp is the commercial and administrative centre of Central
Uusimaa. The strengths of our business life are the top-of-the-line
know-how in metal industry and our growing cultural industry.
The citys location 38 km from downtown Helsinki, along the Lahti
motorway and the main railroad track, only 20 minutes from the
airport, is logistically excellent.
The sites planned for companies are inexpensive and the rents for
premises are more affordable than those within the ring road III. As
a living environment Jrvenp is comfortable; everything is close by.
Over 2,400 companies operate in Jrvenp. The largest include
Metso Paper, Rocla, Ruukki, Elopak, Amipac, Itab Shop Concept
Finland, Wursti, Helsingin Mylly, Marimatic, Tietoshk, Temal and
Aerial.

Jrvenp is a cultural gemstone


Jrvenp offers several attractions for its inhabitants as well as for the
tourists. Several of these are located in the Lake Tuusula cultural area.
Ainola, the home of composer Jean Sibelius.
Jrvenp art museum, displays the works of the local artists
Eero Jrnefelt and Venny Soldan-Brofeldt, as well as seasonal
exhibitions.
Ahola, the home of author Juhani Aho and painter Venny SoldanBrofeldt, exhibits the lifetime work of these two artists.
Suviranta, the home of painter Eero Jrnefelt, open for public only
occasionally.
Villa Kokkonen, home of the composer Joonas Kokkonen.
The house was designed by architect and designer Alvar Aalto.
Kallio-Kuninkala, Sibelius Academy training centre.

Culture and tourism


Culture is an essential part of the present-day Jrvenp.
The city hosts various musical events annually.
The pedestrian street Janne, which runs from the railway
station towards Tuusulanjrvi lake, creates a welcoming
setting in summer and is also the scene of many events
during the winter time.
In Vanhankylnniemi there is a cosy park-like
recreational area, a camping area and a beach.

International co-operation
Jrvenp interacts actively with the eight twin cities it has.
The twin cities have been chosen based on similarity with Jrvenp
(e.g. population number, location near a metropolitan area or a
railroad track).
Most of the co-operation takes place in the fields of culture, sports,
youth exchange, personnel exchange and business.
