Fang Street Blues Synopsis

Fang Street Blues is a modern urban fantasy novel set in a world where magick and
monsters are real. The story follows Thomas White and his sister, Lucy. Thomas is gay and an
unlicensed witch who could go to jail for practicing magick and he is very protective of his sister.
Lucy is a fun-loving girl who likes to let her brother be the responsible one. When it comes to
work, though she is no-nonsense and is a master of mixed martial arts. Thomas and Lucy are
super close throughout the novel.
The siblings work together in a business they inherited from their father after his death
four months prior to the novels start. They are sort of paranormal private investigators. The story
revolves around a series of brutal murders that are taking place around the Fang Street vampire
district of the city. Detective Elena Martinez, lead detective of the Inhuman Task Force and
friend of their father. She asks them to aid her with the murder investigation. Lucy finds herself
in a flirtatious relationship with Dev Gupta, an officer on the ITF while also reconnecting with
her vampire ex-boyfriend Reid to help the case. Thomas begins to connect with a mercenary-forhire, Sebastian Tseng who turns out to be a half demon. These relationships cause minor tension
for the siblings, as Thomas hates Reid and Lucy doesnt trust Sebastian.
The investigation is a difficult one as the killer leaves behind no evidence, and any
magickal efforts to track it down fail because the creature devours the souls of its victims. A
client of the siblings, Edward Dane, is implicated by them but his money makes him a difficult
target. Throughout the novel Thomas finds himself haunted by dreams of Lucy dying and a
mysterious figure warning him that alone he cannot save her. After an encounter with the killer
Thomas discovers it is a shade, a powerful demonic spirit bound into the corpse of a recently
dead war hero that has been missing for a while. This is bad news because shades are notoriously
hard to createmeaning someone with great power created itand are even harder to kill.
The group gets a meeting with Alcide, the elusive vampire prince of the city, and Thomas
fears his dream will come true so convinces Martinez to leave Dev and Lucy behind. Lucy is
betrayed by Reid, who has teamed up with Edward Dane, who commissioned the shade, in order
to bring down Alcide, who he feels has weakened the vampires. Dev and Lucy are kidnapped and
brought to the meeting place with the prince, where a battle breaks out and Dev is fatally
wounded. In the heat of the battle Sebastian kisses Thomas. Alcide is killed. Thomas manages to
use his power and tap into Sebastians demonic power to undo the spell binding the shade in its

corpse. Lucy begs Nur to save Dev by turning him into a vampire, and she does, even though
Martinez warns that Dev wont like it.
In the aftermath Thomas wrestles with his feelings for Sebastian while Lucy finds that
Dev wants nothing to do with her, that he is angry with her for what shes done. Martinez
delivers the check to them, thanking them for their service, and Thomas and Lucy use the money
to replace the sign on their door, making the office officially their own, a small victory.
