Parent Corner-Examples
Reading/Writing
Key Terms:
1. Main characters:
o Protagonist- central or leading character or group of characters, sometimes the
hero.
o Antagonist- the character or group of characters that oppose the main character,
sometimes the villain.
2. Plot events that make up the story.
3. Conflict- the struggle between the protagonist and antagonist.
Example: Cinderella
1. Main Characters:
o Protagonist- Cinderella
o Antagonist- Cinderellas stepmom and step sisters
2. Plot The prince holds a ball and invites all the ladies in kingdom so he can find a wife.
Cinderellas step mother and step sisters do not want her to go. Her fairy godmother
appears and gives her a new dress and a glass slippers. Cinderella and the prince fall in
love, but as she leaves she loses one of her glass slippers. The prince decides to use the
glass slipper to find Cinderella but her step mother locks her in the attic. The animals help
her escape the attic and she runs down the stairs just in time to try on the slipper and it fits.
3. Conflict The step mother and step sisters do not want Cinderella to go to the ball or to be
found by the prince.

Math
Look at shapes of the buildings, for example are they rectangle or square. Also look at furniture to
find right angles, hair tools such as the flat iron open as an acute angle, and scissors can open to
be an obtuse angle.

At Home Learning
Ex. A news article covering the presidential debate
o Who are the presidential candidates? Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump
o What the political issues being discussed? Should Syrian refugees come to the United
States?
o When should these things happen? When they become president.
o Where is the location they discussed the issues? At a debate in Florida.
o Ask your child how they feel about the issue discussed. Do they agree or disagree, why?
