A.G. Leventis Visiting Fellowship in Contemporary Greek Studies at SEESOX,
Academic Year 2016/17
Applications are invited for the A.G. Leventis Visiting Fellowship at SEESOX, St Antonys
College, University of Oxford, for the academic year 2016/17. The fellowship is intended to
support scholarship related to Contemporary Greek Studies in the Colleges areas of
interest: Anthropology, Economics, International Relations, Modern History, Politics, Social
Policy and Sociology.
Applicants should have completed a doctorate at the time of application, have an
advanced knowledge of contemporary Greece and/or Cyprus, and demonstrated research
excellence in an area relevant to one of the above-mentioned disciplines. Scholars who
have recently completed their PhD theses are encouraged to apply.
The Fellow will pursue and present his/her own interest in the context of the academic life
of SEESOX and the College. A good working knowledge of English is essential.
The fellowship is awarded for three terms from 1 October 2016 until 30 June 2017. It carries
an expenses allowance of 22,510, plus other College benefits. Taxation in the UK and
elsewhere depends on the individual circumstances of the candidate and independent
personal advice should be taken as necessary.
The successful candidate will become an associate of SEESOX, a member of the academic
community of the European Studies Centre, and a Visiting Fellow of St Antonys College.
He/she will be expected to reside in Oxford during tenure, to pursue his or her own
research, and to participate fully in the academic life of South East European Studies at
Oxford, for example:

To conduct research and publish original work on an aspect related to


contemporary Greece and/or Cyprus in the SEESOX occasional paper series
To present his/her work in public lectures and/or organise a workshop
To participate in the activities of SEESOX

There is an expense allowance of 22,510. Additional benefits include:

South East European Studies at Oxford (SEESOX)


South East European Studies at Oxford (SEESOX) focuses on the interdisciplinary study of
South East Europe, including Greece, Turkey, Cyprus and the Balkan states. Its activities
include teaching, training and research supervision; seminars and conferences;
roundtables, public lectures and panel discussions; publications; research projects.
Drawing on the academic excellence of the University of Oxford, and an international
network of associates, SEESOX conducts scholarly and policy-relevant research on the
dynamics of transition, Europeanization, trans-nationalism, conflict resolution and
economic development in South East Europe.
European Studies Centre
The European Studies Centre at St Antonys College is dedicated to the interdisciplinary
study of Europe. It has particular strengths in politics, history and international relations,
but also brings together economists, sociologists, social anthropologists and students of
culture. It is also a meeting place and intellectual laboratory for the whole community of
those interested in European Studies at the University of Oxford. The Rt Hon Lord Patten
of Barnes (Chris Patten), Chancellor of the University of Oxford, and former European
Commissioner for External Relations, is the Patron of the European Studies Centre.
St Antonys College
St Antonys College, founded in 1950, is the most international of the seven graduate
colleges of the University of Oxford, specialising in international relations, economics,
politics and the history of particular parts of the world: Europe, Russia and the former Soviet
states, the Middle East, Africa, Japan, China, South and South East Asia and Latin America.
St Antonys Governing Body Fellows all have international reputations in their specialist
fields and, in combination, provide a unique insight into todays global issues. There are
over 500 students from some 43 different countries studying for postgraduate degrees
and each year some 80 visiting senior members from the academic, diplomatic, business
and political worlds come to the College.

Those who are shortlisted will be interviewed either in Oxford or via Skype.
