STORY TELLING COMPETITION 2016 : LEVEL TWO

THE HEN THAT LAID THE GOLDEN EGGS.

A very good afternoon to the chairperson, honourable judges, beloved
teachers and fellow students. Today I would like present a story entitled
The Hen That Laid The Golden Eggs.
Once upon a time, a poor farmer lived with his family in a cottage
house in the village. The farmer reared farm animals such as cows, goats
ducks and hens. During the weekends, he would sell the farm animalss
produce such as milk and eggs at the market , for a living.
One morning, the farmer was on his usual routine. He was walking
around the chicken coops , collecting the eggs laid by the hens. While in one
of the coops, suddenly, a shiny object caught his attention. It was glittering
and unusually bright. The farmer was very surprised. When he pulled it out,
to his amazement, it was a golden egg. Gold! Gold ! It s a golden egg! A
hen has laid a golden egg Papa Farmer shouted excitedly.
He was so overjoyed that he rushed to his house to share the good news
with his wife. She was over the moon when she heard the good news. Then ,
Papa Farmer suggested, Mama , we should back to the coop tomorrow to
find out which of the hens that had laid the golden eggs. Mama Farmer
agreed.

The next day, the couple was at the coop early in the morning.Shhh !
Walk quietly, Mama! We must not startle the hens. Lets wait beside the
coop, Mama. Any hens could lay eggs now .said Papa Farmer. Mama Farmer
agreed. While waiting in the cold misty morning, suddenly a hen made a
clucking sound.
Cluck !Cluck! Cluck! Cluck! Cluck! Cluck! Cluck! Cluck! Cluck! Cluck! Cluck !
Cluck!
Papa Farmer and Mama Farmer rushed quickly inside the coop and saw a
red - feathered hen had laid a golden egg. Its another golden egg. We are
going to be rich ! We are going to be rich ! Our red feathered hen is laying

the golden eggs. They screamed happily. Later , they put the hen in a
special coop and fed it with the best chicken foods everyday.

The hen laid one golden egg a day from that day onwards. Papa Farmer
sold the golden eggs and received lots of money. When he saw all the
money , he said greedily
MONEY ! MONEY ! MONEY ! MONEY ! I am rich now ! I am rich now !
he said. Papa Farmer bought many things for his family with that money.
Soon , they became greedier.
One night, Mama Farmer suggested a plan to Papa Farmer. Papa, I
want to get all the gold at once ! But how , Mama ? asked Papa Farmer.
Lets kill and cut open its stomach ! Then we can get all the golden eggs
at once, she said greedily. That s a good idea , Mama ! Lets do it now.
So they went to the coop and caught the hen by its neck.
Mama, hold the hen while I kill it, said Papa Farmer. Cluuuck !
Cluck ! Cluck ! Cluuuck ! Cluck ! Cluck ! Plop ! came the sound and the
hen was dead.
Quick ! Quick ! Cut its stomach ! I want the golden eggs !
CUT ! CUT ! CUT ! screamed Mama Farmer. When Papa Farmer cut opened
its stomach , suddenly , Oh , no ! There are no golden eggs ! There are no
golden eggs ! cried Mama Farmer . We have killed the hen that laid the
golden eggs . Now , we will not get any golden eggs anymore. We are
going to be poor ! We are going to be poor again , cried Papa Farmer.

They regretted their actions and cried bitterly.
