Volunteer as a Literacy Tutor

Literacy Action Corps, LAC, an all-volunteer organization,

trains tutors and pairs them with an adult student for oneon-one work. Our motto is "Each One Teach One." After
training, the commitment is about 1-2 hours a week, at
a time and place convenient for the tutor and student.
Many of our tutors use the public library study rooms.
The class will be held on five consecutive Tuesdays, Sept.
13, 20, 27, Oct. 4 and 11 (all sessions required). The
$20 fee is to cover the cost of a book and other training
materials. The deadline for registration is Sept. 9. For
more information, contact Mahree Skala, LAC Volunteer,
at 573-474-2195.

Open Door Ministry Meets July 21

Please join us for the next Open
Door Ministry gathering on Thursday,
July 21 from 7-8:30pm in CLC 103.
We will be discussing our plans for
participation in PrideFest.

Since 1995 Rainbow Network has been

working in Nicaragua, helping families in
remote rural villages to help themselves with
housing, education, health care/nutrition
and economic development. Volunteers
from a number of Columbia churches work
through Container Project to provide Rainbow
Network with valuable resources. Their next
large 40 ft. sea-going container of resources
will be sent in the fall. You can help by
contributing the following items (Please
deliver to PET Warehouse, 1908 Heriford Rd;
phone: 573-886-7877).
Clothing and shoes, especially for children;
school supplies, especially spiral notebooks,
pens, and pencils; canes; walkers; sewing
machines. There is also a need for heavy
duty wheel barrows and tools suitable for
house construction. For more information
go to www.rainbownetwork.org or call Cleo
Kottwitz, 573-446-0799.

Medical Equipment

Our church has medical equipment for the

use of those who could utilize such aids.
Currently, our stock includes commodes,
walkers, crutches, a quad-cane, shower
chairs, toilet extenders, an eggcrate
mattress, and various splints/rolls of coban/
acewraps. Please call the church office if you
would like to use or donate any items.

WEDNESDAY: Psalm 16:9-11 Joy

What joy rising and singing from my lips; so much that I dont fear my life flesh, my life. For in
your presence I am happy and you want me with you. Joy swells in now and always.

TUESDAY: Psalm 16:7-8 Blessing

Bless you! For direction in difficult decisions and trying times; for the wisdom you plant in my
heart if I but listen in the quiet of night. Continue, I pray, to lead the way of my life, and I will
stay in your ways.

MONDAY: Psalm 16:5-6 Sustenance

God, who is like food for my soul and drink for my thirsty spirit. You sustain me. What a privilege
to be part of your familyan heir to your glory and eternity.

This week I offer a paraphrase of Psalm 16:5-11. I invite you to rewrite the psalm in your own words as
well, that it may become your prayer.

9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices;

My flesh also will rest in hope.
10 For You will not leave my soul in Sheol,
Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.
11 You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

7 I will bless the LORD who has given me counsel;

My heart also instructs me in the night seasons.
8 I have set the LORD always before me;
Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.

O LORD, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup;

You maintain my lot.
6 The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places;
Yes, I have a good inheritance.

Then Abishai son of Zeruiah said to the king, Why should this dead dog curse
my lord the king? Let me go over and take off his head. But the king said,
What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? If he is cursing because the
Lord has said to him, Curse David, who then shall say, Why have you done
so? David said to Abishai and to all his servants, My own son seeks my life;
how much more now may this Benjaminite! Let him alone, and let him curse;
for the Lord has bidden him. It may be that the Lord will look on my distress,
and the Lord will repay me with good for this cursing of me today.

When King David came to Bahurim, a man of the family of the house of Saul
came out whose name was Shimei son of Gera; he came out cursing. He threw
stones at David and at all the servants of King David; now all the people and
all the warriors were on his right and on his left. Shimei shouted while he
cursed, Out! Out! Murderer! Scoundrel! The Lord has avenged on all of you
the blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you have reigned; and the Lord
has given the kingdom into the hand of your son Absalom. See, disaster has
overtaken you; for you are a man of blood.

Limited Mobility Parking to

Increase on Sundays

The trustees are mindful that many of our members and

visitors who need to park in the church lot on Sunday are
unable to find a parking spot. In an effort to address this
need, we will be purchasing some portable handicapped
parking signs that can be used on Sunday to increase the
number of limited mobility spots available. These signs
should be in place by the first of September.

We Are More in Missouri

The bishops of the South Central Jurisdiction have joined

together to produce a campaign focused on stories that
connect people and proclaim that #WeAreMore when
united through Jesus Christ. Today the We Are More
website launched a video featuring Kassie Bulen, a high
school senior who is a member of Arbela UMC in the Mark
Twain District. Watch the video of Kassie sharing her faith
story at https://youtu.be/eawf8aqDEqM . The We Are
