Body Paragraph

The French population in Canada have been wanting to separate for a very long time and
Expo 67 showed the world their desires on an international scale. When there was a great
revenue generated from the exhibition, many of the French people (mainly those in Quebec),
wanted to separate from Canada because they believed that they are self sufficient enough to
succeed as an independent nation. Expo 67 cost Canada, Qubec and Montral $283 million to
put together and to run. Independent economic studies indicated that the return to federal,
provincial and municipal taxpayers was almost double that amount (Maude-Emmanuelle
Lambert, 08/28/15). With this in mind, the French President General Charles de Gaulle came to
the exhibition and had this to say "Vive Montral... Vive le Qubec ...Vive le Qubec Libre!" This
caused an uproar in the French people seeking separation as this was a sign that the French
president believed they should be liberated from Canada. Prompting the Canadian prime
minister at the time to say "Canadians do not need to be liberate, Canada will remain united and
will reject any effort to destroy her unity."

caused many French Canadians to want separation as they believe they have the money to
sustain themselves and have a strong leading French president to lead them to becoming a
strong and stable nation.
