Bullying
Bullying has been a critical issue in schools for decades. Looking back to the
18th century peer-on-peer harassment was just as commonly seen as it is today. Of
course, during that time bullying was newly recognized and little understood. What
may be seen as violent behavior today might not have been in that time. While
bullying in schools remains a critical issue, throughout the years several events and
studies have taken place that have made a significant impact on bullying and have
expanded its meaning in many ways. In our society we live in world of much
violence and this is occurs at many social levels, in all areas. Even This situation is
becoming a big problem for society. Because it interferes with education and it
creates fear culture. Bullying has different causes, types and consequences in our
society. Nowadays its a global issue that unfortunately has fatal consequences. It
is any behavior that is initiated by one or more students against a victim or victims
that causes physical or psychological intimidation. The most important fact to stop
bullying is learn how identify the harasser, in that way we know how to start
helping them with their behavior and teach them to respect others. Nowadays exist
many associations and groups anti bullying who are helping people to recover their
lives without feel fear and respecting each other.

The causes that can make bullying appear are incalculable. Bullying sit
self in many ways and causes unlimited damages. In general, the causes or
factors that create a harasser in schools are often from personality, family,
school. In some cases a person may bully because there is an aspect of a
persons personality that they dont understand or dont agree with. They may
also have a prejudice against a persons race, religion, or sexual orientation, and

in many instances they may even think that targeting a person whom they see
assumes as wrong behavior as a good thing. Another cause is family; when
the child may have aggressive attitudes as a way to express their feelings the
child may have aggressive attitudes as a way to express their feelings due to
some affectionate family environment. Where there are situations where the
absence of a parent, divorce, violence, abuse or bullying exercised by parents
and older siblings. Perhaps because it is a child who possibly lives under
constant pressure to succeed in their activities or he/she is a very spoiled child,
all these situations can lead to aggressive behavior in children and lead them to
violence as teenagers. Another cause of bullying is at schools; the bigger the
school is, is the greater the risk that bullying occurs. Above all if at this factor
is compounded by the lack physical control, surveillance by Inconsistency in
the prevention of aggressive behavior. This is especially true when teacher is
not strict and allows students to scoff each other.

Bullying has direct harassment that its the most common form among
children between fights and physical assaults. And indirect harassment its
usually more common among girls and in general starts at 8 years old. According
with the organization `no bullying.gob it sits self in three types of bullying. The
Physical bullying is the most obvious form of bullying. It occurs when kids use
physical actions to gain power and control over their targets. It tends to be bigger,
stronger and more aggressive than their peers. Examples of physical bullying
include kicking, hitting, punching, slapping, shoving and other physical attacks.
The next one is verbal bullying; when people use words, statements, and namecalling to gain power and control over a target. Typically, verbal bullies will use
relentless insults to belittle, demean and hurt another person either racial, culture or
religion. Its also common for verbal bullies to target kids with special needs. On
another hand Sexual bullying consists of repeated, harmful and humiliating actions
that target a person sexually. Examples include sexual name-calling, crude
comments, vulgar gestures, uninvited touching, sexual propositioning and
pornographic materials. For instance, a bully might make a crude comment about a
girls appearance, attractiveness, sexual development or sexual activity. The
exclusion Social is bullying because it involves ignore people, he/she is isolated or
excluded. It aims to isolate the young from the rest of the group, to make them feel

sad, ignores, isolated and excluded. Finally we have Cyberspace It evolves the use
of media (Internet, mobile and online video games mainly) to exercise mobbing
among schoolchildren. It is bullying conducted through new technologies (SMS,
Internet and social networks, Messenger). This kind of harassment is on the rise
and represents the harassment of the victim anywhere 24 hours a day. Although
you might believe that is less serious than face to face harassment, the
consequences are terrible, as you can see by suicide cases that have already
happened in several countries.
With the time bullying has disastrous situations and has effects especially on
the aggressors in short time the bullies feels frustrated he/she has trouble living
with other children, he/she believes that any effort you make worthwhile to create
positive relationships with peers. And in long term they may be on the verge of
criminal behavior. According how they are growing, the damage could be greater,
they can afterwards become offender, murderers. And the consequences on victims
in short term they Decreased academic achievementGPA and standardized test
scoresand school participation. They are more likely to miss, skip, or drop out of
school. Also Depression and anxiety, increased feelings of sadness and loneliness,
changes in sleep and eating patterns, and loss of interest in activities they used to
enjoy. These issues may persist into adulthood. Its evident low self-esteem, passive
attitudes, loss of interest in studies which can lead to a situation of school failure,
emotional disorders, psychosomatic problems, depression, anxiety, suicidal
thoughts.
Historically, the most significant turning point for bullying took place in the
mid 1970s. Dan Olweus, a research professor of psychology, was the first to
conduct an intensive study on bullying among students using his own systematic
researching methods (Voo, 2007, p112). He created the Olweus Bullying
Prevention Program (OBPP), which had significant results in reducing school
bullying (Hazelden Foundation, 2007). Olweuss efforts contributed greatly to the
fight against bullying because it brought awareness, initiated other professionals to
conduct research, and vastly expanded the meaning of bullying (Voo, 2007).
Olweuss efforts have made a great impact on school violence and helped to bring
safety back into schools. Bullying is a issue that exists for so long, it is a big
damage for childhood of thousands of children. But also it can be stopped. It has
solutions and starts helping the bullies because they are who need a lot of attention,
patient and compassion. They make up their minds to free themselves from their

bullies. The way they choose is not the best solution, but to them it is the only
solution. Parents, teachers and others in authority can nip bullying in the bud,
before it gets out of control. Bullies target others that are weak, fragile, and quiet
and none threatening. Bullies are careful to target the right victims. Bullies are
looking for attention.
