    DEVELOPMENT ACTION PLAN

    Short term goals:

    I plan to continue my research on climate change and its effect on the built environment, extending it
    not only for office buildings in the UK, but also for other building types, and also for areas in Europe
    and possibly other major cities in the world. Im also interested to investigate Urban Heat Islands for
    cities and how this would affect heating / cooling designs in buildings. It is hoped that some of this
    work will be useful for CIBSE, and can be incorporated into CIBSE Guides in the future. I intend to
    continue running the MSc programme in Sustainable Electrical Building Services Engineering. This
    allows me not only to continue with research work and the teaching of Building Services Engineering,
    but also gives a valuable link with consultancy companies and contractors, so Im always up-to-date to
    what is happening in the industry, and I can use my position to be a useful link between academia and
    industry. I would also continue to attend regularly meetings and presentations of CIBSE NW Region.

    Medium term goals:

    My medium-term research interests lie in the thermal design of energy-efficient buildings that are
    comfortable for occupants, and developing model offices, dwellings and even small communal areas
    that would be sustainable for the future. I also aim to be climbing the ladder in academia and become
    a lecturer in Building Engineering. This would allow me to pass on my expertise in the field and at the
    same time, allow me to continue doing research. I also aim to continue having links with consultancy
    companies and contractors, and to conduct research for the industry on topics that require
    investigation.

    Long term goals:

    My long-term goal is to become a professor in a university Building Services Engineering department,


    and to be a leading figure in the field where I can be influential in the research and development of the
    science of Building Services Engineering. The future of our field will probably be dominated by
    sustainability issues, how buildings can help to adapt to climate change and how to mitigate its effects
    on occupants, so I can see my future being involved in tackling these problems.
