1.1 isaac newton
Born on December 25, 1642 and died on March 20, 1727.
Was an English scientist, mathematician and natural philosopher.
Regarded as one of the most influential scholars in the history of
science.
He formulated the Three Laws of Motion which were derived from
Johann Keplers Laws of Planetary Motion and his own mathematical
description of gravity.
Also formulated the law of Universal Gravitation in the Principia. Which
states that every point mass attracts every single other point mass by
a force pointing along the line intersecting both points.
Predicted that the Earth was likely shaped as an oblate spheroid, a
theory which was later vindicated by the measurements of Maupertuis,
La Condamine, and others.

1.2 Nicolaus Copernicus

Famous for his contributions to astronomy.

Famous for theorizing that the sun is at the center of the universe.
Made the Copernican Model, which was an absolute breakthrough idea.
His theory was Heliocentric
Published his ideas in De revolutionibus orbium coelestium.
Corpernicus heliocentric theory began what become known as the
Copernican Revolution.

1.3 Johannes Kepler

Born 1571
Died 1630
Probably the most mytical of the early age scientist/philosopher of
Europes Scientific Revolution.
Obsessed with the formation of the universe, primarily planetary
motion.
Believer of the Heliocentric Theory
Wrote a book entitled Mysterium Cosmographicum (The Mystery of
the Universe)
Also famous for his Three Prime Theories on Planetary Motion
1st Law: The orbit of the planet about the Sun is an ellipse with the
Suns center of mass at one focus.
2nd Law: A line joining a planet and the Sun sweeps out equal areas in
equal intervals of time.
3rd Law: The squares of the periods of the planets are proportional to
the cubes of their semi-major axes.
Also credited for the idea of how tides are affected by the moon.

1.4 Tycho Brahe

Danish Nobleman
Born 1546
Died 1601
Devised the most precise instruments available before the invention of
the telescope for observing the heavens.
Made observations from Uraniborg.
Compiled extensive data on the planet Mars.

1.5 Galileo Galilei

Born 1564
Died 1642
Pivotal figure in the development of modern astronomy.
First to use the telescope to study the heavens systematically.
Galileo observed 4 points of light that changed their positions with
time around the planet Jupiter. He concluded that these were the
moons of Jupiter
