ENGL-2600
Professor Brittney Stephenson
August 9, 2016
Semester Assessment
Ive never done this well in an online class before. Professor Stephenson was great. She
had high expectations for us as students and that really helped bring out my full potential in the
field of English, which is my major. I learned a lot about literary criticism and analysis and it was
because of the amount of reading in the book my professor chose for this semester. For my
poetry project, I felt like I knew what I was talking about, because I finally understood the terms
and references the book provided me with despite vaguely understanding them before. I was able
to pick apart The Day Dream by my favorite poet, Alfred, Lord Tennyson for my poetry
project and finally put meaning into my understanding of this poem and was able to share that
with the class, and I thought that was excellent. Also, when rhetorically analyzing a poem like I
did for The Clan of One-Breasted Women by Terry Tempest, I was able to recognize certain
words that made me feel a certain way or think a certain way, and was able to point those out as
well in my rhetorical analysis paper. I feel because of this semester and the excellent teacher I
had, I can go forward now in my education knowing how and what to look for in a piece of
literature in order to further understand it.
