All I Need is Me, Alone – A Villanelle Poem

I do not seek for material stone

To build myself up high
All I need is me, alone.

Strength lies within the bone,

and not in things I buy.
I do not seek for material stone.

Only Queens sit on a throne—

to sit is to sin, then die.
All I need is me, alone.

Things outside me I do not own—

And though they pull and pry,
I do not seek for material stone.

All this time I should have known:

To make my purpose, take aim and fly,
All I need is me, alone.

What is the truth and still unknown:

The material outside is deceitful, sly.
I do not seek for material stone,
because all I need is me, alone.
