Cosmetology II Course Syllabus


COS 300
2016-2017
Course Description:
This is the last class of a three-year program resulting in 1000 hours of instruction. It
includes the New York State Department of State Cosmetology Curriculum as the core
curriculum, which aligns with industry standards and Career Ready Practices.
(Pre-requisite: Successful completion of Intro to Cosmetology and Cos I)
Much of the Cos II Program is hands-on practical application. They will run the salon for
students, staff and members of the community at least once a week.
Upon completion of this program (Intro to Cos, Cos I and Cos II), student assessments
include NOCTI accredited exam, as well as a culminating student project demonstrating
commencement-level problem solving, technical skills and academic competency. Skill
competencies will be documented not only through final written exams and project, but
also through on-going authentic assessment using portfolio documentation. Students
that pass both the written and practical NOCTI exam will receive a technical
endorsement on their diploma.
At the end of the Cos II program, as long as student is at least 17 years old, and has
completed 1000 hours of instruction, students will be eligible for a temporary
cosmetology license and be schedule to take their NYS cosmetology boards.

Course Objectives:
1-Students will continue to project a positive attitude and a sense of personal integrity
and self-confidence.
2-Students will practice effective communication skills, visual poise, and proper
grooming.
3-Respect the need to deliver worthy service for value received in an employeremployee relationship.
4-Students will apply academic and practical leaning and related information to ensure
sound judgment, decisions, and procedures.

Integrated Academics:
1-Credit English 12

Equipment and Supplies:

School will provide: Textbook, Portfolio binders, Cosmetology Lab equipment

Student will provide: Their cosmetology kit (purchased in Cos I) or rent one like
previous year

Student will provide: Closed-toed shoes (nothing canvas)

Student will provide: a lock (either key or combination )unless they rent a kit in
which one will be provided

Grading:

Classwork (Daily Grade) 25%


Homework (vocabulary, worksheets) 20%
(Portfolio, Research Papers graded separately when required)
Test 30%
Lab (all hands on activities and practical work) 25%
All homework and assignments are due on the assigned date; late work will be
accepted up to three days late, losing 10 points per day.

Additional Course Policies:


There is an articulation agreement with Bryant and Stratton College for any student who
completes the Salon Business Plan with at least a 90 can apply for 3-6 college business
credits if attending that college.
Attendance is extremely important!! Take advantage of all make up opportunities
