NMS Cheer Packet

Theseguidelinesareprovidedtoinformstudentsandparentsoftheexpectationsofparticipating
inthecheerleadingprogramatNMS.Cheerleadersselectedforthecheerleadingteamsmustbe
inagreementwiththeseguidelinesandmustadheretothemduringtheirtenureonthesquad.
Teammembersmaynotparticipateinthefirstofficialpracticeuntilthisformissignedand
returnedtothecoachingstaff.

Philosophy
ThephilosophyofthecheerleadingprogramatNMShasthreemajorgoals:tobeasupport
groupforallathleticteams,encouragingschoolspirittostrivetobeasuccessfulcompetitive
programandtohelpourcheerleaderathletesdevelopqualitiesthatwillenablethemtoachieve
successinallfutureendeavors.

Standards for Cheerleaders

Cheerleadersbytitlearerolemodels.Rememberthattherearepeoplewatchingeverythingyou
sayanddo.Becauseofthis,theNMScheerleadersareexpectedtosethighstandardsfortheir
schoolandtosetagoodexamplefortheirfellowstudents.Toachievetheseends,the
cheerleaderswill:
SignandabidebytheprovisionsofthiscontractandtheNorthernMiddleAthleticCode.
MaintainacademicandattendancerequirementsrequiredbytheNCHSAAguidelinesfor
middleschoolathletes.
CheerleadersareStudentAthletes,whichmeansyouareastudentfirstathlete
second.IamrequiringallofmycheerleaderstohaveaGPAofa2.5orhigher.
Iamnotonlyjustacoach,butateacherandrolemodel.Iexpectmycheerleaders
tobeleadersinandoutoftheclassroom.Iwillbecheckingcheerleadersgrades
every3weeks.Ifacheerleaderisfailingaclasstheywillbepermittedtoattend
tutoringuntiltheyshowimprovementpertheteacher.
Attendallscheduledpractices/games/performances,unlessitisanexcusedabsence.
Setanexampleofgoodbehavioratalltimes(whetherinuniformornot)inclass,games,
andatallschoolfunctions(thisincludesPDAandadheringtotheschooldresscode).

 Cooperatewitheachotherandfollowtheinstructionofthecheerleadingcoaches.

*Anyviolationoftherulesoutlinedinthiscontractwillresultinoneormoreofthefollowing
consequencesadministeredatthediscretionofthecheerleadingcoachand/orschool
administration:verbalwarning,parentconference,temporarysuspensionfromgames,or
permanentremovalfromtheteam.

Points to Remember
InthisprogramIplanoncompeting!Keepinmindthatbynature,thetimecommitmentand
demandsaremuchgreater.Allathletesarerequiredtoupholdtheircommitmenttotheteam.
Everyonemusthaveasolidworkingknowledgeofallcheers,chants,stunts,androutines.
WhileIrecognizedoctoranddentalappointmentsarenecessary,everyattemptshouldbemade
toscheduletheseappointmentsaroundpracticesandgames.Duringgamesuspensions,the
squadmemberwillsitinuniformwiththecoach/advisor.Thisisnotatimetosocialize.

Behavior
Classroomandsocialbehaviorshouldbeexemplaryatalltimes.
Iwillnottoleratemisbehavioranddisorderlyconductinclass.Ifateacherhasto
contactmeaboutoneofmycheerleadersyouwillsitoutagame.Iamateacher
first,coachsecondandduringmyworkdayIshouldnothavetotendto
cheerleaderbusiness.
EverycheerleaderwillbeputonaTallySystem.Eachgirlonlycanget3tallies.
Talleyscanbeearnedbymissingpractice(unexcused),misconductduringschool
hours,misconductduringpracticeorgames,visitingtheSchoolCounselor(drama,
misbehavior,etc.),notbeingpreparedforagame,silentlunch,beingpickedup
after5:15,etc.
InanydisciplinaryactionsetforthbyadministrationsuchasISS/OSSthefollowingpunishment
willberendered:

1. ISSSuspensionfrompractice/gamethedayofISS.Thiswillbeconsideredan
unexcusedabsence.
2. OSSmayresultinimmediatedismissalorlongtermsuspensionfromtheteam.

Eachsquadmemberwilltreatcoaches,gameofficials,andotherathleticsstaffwithrespectat
alltimes.Thisattitudeshouldalsoextendtomembersofthisandothercheerleadingsquads.

*Coachesdiscretionwillbefinalregardinginappropriatebehaviororattitude.

Attendance
Studentathletesmustbeinattendanceatschoolforatleasthalfadaytobeeligibleto
participateinpracticeorperformancesforthatday.Youmustbeeligiblebothbygradesand
attendancetocheer.Unexcusedabsencesfromschoolwillbeconsideredanunexcusedabsence
frompracticeaswell.
Ifyouareatschool,youareexpectedtobeatpracticethatday.Wewill,tothebestof
ourability,puttogetherascheduletoassisteachmemberinarrangingtheirschedules.
However,thesetimesaresubjecttochange.Asquicklyaspossible,allchangeswillbe
communicatedanditstheresponsibilityofthecheerleadertoadjustplansaccordingly.
ItistheresponsibilityofthecheerleadersParenttonotifythecoachesbyphone,textor
email,ofanypotentialtardyorabsence.Unlessthereisanemergency,significantnotification
mustbeprovidedtoallowthecoachestopreparearevisedpracticeschedule.
Membersmustarriveatevents/practicesontimealreadydressed,andreadytowarmup.
Unlessitsanemergencyorthecoachiscontacted,theentireteamwillrunforlatemembers.
Practicewillusuallybe12daysaweek.September6,2016willbegintheofficial
cheeringseason.Whenschoolresumespracticetimesanddayswillchange.

Iwillconsiderthefollowingacceptablereasonsformissedpractices,games,andappearances:

1. InjuryThemembermuststillattendpractice/games(unlessphysicallyunable)butwill
notparticipateuntilmedicalclearancehasbeenprovided.Doctorsnotesmustbe
specificinnatureofinjuryandrestrictions.
2. IllnessAmembermayonlymisspracticewithaphonecallfromtheparent(nottexting
oremail)verifyinganillness(mildcramps,headaches,etc.arenotconsideredacceptable
illnesses).
3. FamilyEmergencies/FuneralsClassrequirementthatcannotbefulfilledatanothertime.

*Failuretocontactacoachaboutmissingpracticeforanyreasonwillresultinanunexcused
absence.
Thecoachhasthediscretiontoremoveacheerleaderfromtheteamforexcessive

tardinessandpoorattendance.

Practice Expectations
Football Schedule: Practice every Tuesday from 3:30-5 pm
Basketball Schedule: Practice on Game days unless
specified by coach
Inadditiontowaterprovidedbythecoach,eachgirlshouldalwaysremembertobringanample
supplyofwaterwiththemtoeverypracticeregardlessofwhatthepracticeschedulemaybe.
Practiceattireincludestennisshoes,shorts,tshirt,hairupinasecureponytail.Thismustbe
takencareofbeforepracticetime.Bringallmedicalneeds(inhalers,insulinpumps,etc.)toall
practiceandgames.
Remember,practicesareclosedtofamilyandfriends.Showcaseswillbescheduledfor
friendsandfamilytowatch.Ifpickedupfrompracticebysomeoneelse,PLEASEbeontime.
Ifconsistenttardinessisaproblemitcouldmeandismissalfromtheteam.Coachesarenot
allowedtoleaveuntilallathleteshaveleftcampus.Cellphonesshouldbeturnedoffandgiven
tothecoachpriortopractice.Phonesmaynotbecheckedduringwaterbreaks.

YouwillberequiredtobringyouruniformattireforthegametopracticetoleaveinMs.
RobinsonsRoomEVERYTUESDAYorMonday.

Game Expectations
NOfooddeliveriesforgames,youMUSTbringyourlunch/dinnertoschool.Youwillbe
requiredtobringyouruniformattireforthegametopracticetoleaveinMs.RobinsonsRoom
EVERYTUESDAY.GirlsshouldreporttoMs.Robinsonsroomat2ndroundbusriders,
andwaitforinstructions.GirlsmustSTAYintheroomandbedressedandreadytowalkdown
tothefield/courtat4:45.Membersmaynotleavethegameearlywithoutpriorapproval.

Membersmustridetoandfromawaygameswiththeteamunlesspriorwrittenapprovalison
filewiththeathleticdepartment.Missinggamesisabsolutelyunacceptable.

Youareresponsiblefortheupkeepofyouruniform.Uniformsshallbereturnedtothecoachat

theendoftheseason.Makesureyoudonotdrycleantheseuniforms.Theyshouldbewashed
incoldwaterandhungtodry.

Cheerleadersaretoremaininthecheeringareaduringthegame.DONOTsocializewith
players,crowdmembers,orparentsduringthegame.DuringgamecheerleaderswillONLYbe
allowedtoleavethecheeringareaforhalftime.

Performonlythestuntsthathavebeenperfectedandapprovedbythecoach.

Safety
Stunting/Tumbling/StrengthTrainingmustonlytakeplaceinthepresenceofaqualified
supervisor.

Expenses
Cheerleaderswillberesponsiblefortheitemsinwhichtheykeep(shoes,bows,briefs,
warmups,teamtshirts).Fundraisingwilltakeplace.Moreinformationtocome.

Anydonationsmadebyparentsforfoodsupplies/water/etc.duringgames/eventsarewelcome.

Coachs Discretion
All Northern Raider cheerleading rules will be interpreted
and carried out by the NMS cheer coach, under the
guidance of the NMS Administration.

Theseteamruleswillremainthesamethroughouttheentireyearandwillbeappliedequitably
toeachsquadmember.Noexceptionswillbeprovidedtoanyteammember.Thesearethe
20162017NMScheerleadingrulesandregulationsreviewedandapprovedbytheNMS
Administration.

mustabideduringparticipationinthisactivity,andthatwewillberesponsibleforourown
failuretoabidebytheserulesandregulations.Wehavebeenprovidedwithacopyofthe
cheerleadingguidelinesfor20162017,andagreetoparticipateinaccordancewiththese
expectations.BysigningthisformwehavereadandagreedwiththeNMScoachingstaffs
rulesandregulationsastheypertaintomydaughterasamemberoftheNMScheerfamily.
