DEFINE THE FOLLOWING TERMS:

A. Ethology it is the branch of Zoology which is the scientific and objective study
animal behavior. Its focus on behavior is usually under natural conditions.
B. Irritability is an excitation response to stimuli. It can be a growing response to the
objective stimuli of hunger or thirst in animals or humans which then reaches some level
of awareness of that need.
C. Stimuli it is any external change in the environment that can be detected by an
organism.
D. Taxis - a behavioral response of a cell or an organism to an external stimulus, which
may either be towards (attraction) or away (repulsion) from the source of stimulation.
E. Adaptation the process by which an animal or plant species becomes fitted to its
environment; it is the result of natural selections acting upon heritable variation.
2. WHY DO WE STUDY ANIMAL BEHAVIOR?
We study animal behavior because of a variety of reasons. Firstly, it answers
countless of questions as to why animals behave the way they do and how they do it. Not
only does this feed our curiosity towards the world of Kingdom Animalia but it also
makes us understand its nature. Secondly, understanding their world and behavior results
giving value to their lives which then follows the promotion of their wellness. As such,
careful observation of their behavior can provide us a great deal of information regarding
the animals likes and dislikes, their suitable environment and their concerns. Every
species of animals has a different requirement. Thus, it demands us to take time to
observe each of their unique behavior in order to help them when needed. Lastly, we take
hold of this belief that our Heavenly Father gave us the responsibility of protecting this
kingdom. And what best way it is than to use our advantage in studying them not for our
own benefit but to theirs. Our continuous study would help improve their lives as much
as how we want to improve ours.
3. WHAT ARE THE SCIENCES WHICH ARE RELATED TO ANIMAL BEHAVIOR?
Numerous sciences are related to animal behavior since the subject encompasses
a lot of an animals aspects. Their behavior is believed to be influence by their
physiological and anatomical nature wherein they are affected by any internal or external
change in the environment. Such sciences related to animal behavior are Zoology,
Sociology, Neurobiology, Animal science, Wildlife biology, Ecology, Psychology,
Anatomy and Physiology, Ethology, Biology, Entomology, Anthropology and Evolution.
