BIOGRAPHY: GABRIEL NG

Gabriel Ng began learning the violin when he was four at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts
School of Young Talents with Yah Wan Har, and at age ten, was admitted into the prestigious
Yehudi Menuhin School in the UK to study with Natasha Boyarsky. Gabriel proceeded to
study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London under the guidance of David
Takeno.
Gabriel gave his first overseas public performance at the Asian Cultural Festival in Tokyo in
2001, and has since given recitals in Rome, Jakarta, Germany and Switzerland. He has
performed concertos with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Youth Orchestras of Belarus and
Salamanca, Ho Chih Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra, Braddell Heights Symphony
Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Music Makers and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. He
performed at the inaugural Presidents Command Performance (Singapore) in 2009, the
Presidents Young Performers concert and the Esplanade 10 th Anniversary Concert in 2012.
He has also recorded the Elgar Violin Concerto with the Orchestra of the Music Makers which
was released in October 2013 to rave reviews by the Singapore Straits Times and USAs
Fanfare Magazine.
Gabriel has won several violin competition prizes and awards, most notably the Grand Prize
at the XIV Andrea Postacchini International Violin Competition in ltaly in 2007 and the Bach
Prize at the Menuhin International Violin Competition 2012 in Beijing. Gabriel has also been
featured in 2012 on BBC Radio 3 and the Radio Tlvision Suisse.
Gabriel is also an active chamber musician. His string quartet and piano trio in the Guildhall
School had a number of successes. In 2014, his quartet was selected to perform in Londons
Wigmore Hall as part of the National Young String Quartet Weekend while his piano trio
performed at the Barbican Hall as winner of the Ivan Sutton Prize for chamber music in
Guildhall.
Gabriel is currently serving full-time National Service in the Singapore Armed Forces Music
and Drama Company and is active as part time first violin with the Orchestra of Music Makers
and the Braddell Heights Symphony Orchestra.
Gabriel plays on a Francesco Guadagnini violin kindly on loan from the Rin Collection.
