Read the passage carefully and answer the questions that follow:
James Hogg was a famous poet, but he was also a shepherd. One night, when he
was out with his sheep, it started to snow heavily. Knowing that he would have to
get his flock in, Hogg whistled for his faithful collie. When she came running to
him, he told her to get all the sheep in from one side of the moor while he did the
same on the other side. Off they both went.
The shepherd returned much later, bringing with him the sheep he
had rounded up. As there was no sign of the collie, he went into his
cabin to wait. After several hours a painful whine and a feeble
scratching were heard at the door. Rushing out the shepherd saw that
collie had brought in her share of the flock with not a single sheep
missing. Then he noticed that the collie carried something in her mouth. He called
her and she came and laid at her feet a new-born puppy.
Off she went into the snow again, but soon arrived with another puppy, but as she
took this to her master she fell to the ground and died. James Hogg knew that
although his faithful collie had her puppies in a snowstorm she had carried out her
duty to her master and brought the sheep safely home.
