music reading skills on both pitched (mallets) and non-pitched (snare etc.) percussion
instruments.
Students will work on both individual and ensemble development through solo and ensemble
performances and assessments.
Members of the percussion ensemble, in addition to working on their own ensemble music
are also a part of the marching band (fall) and the concert band/wind ensemble
(winter/spring); participating in all performances associated with these groups.

use them
in an appropriate manner such as:
Proper mallet/stick use and playing technique for each instrument
Replacing equipment back in its proper location after each
rehearsal/performance
Using all sticks and mallets only on their assigned percussion instruments
Students will come to class on time and prepared with their individual folders
(music/material) and a pencil

activities in the classroom.

Grading
Grading in the class is based on a point system used to assess students in the
following areas:

materials for rehearsal. Including, but not limited to their instrument, individual binder,
music, and necessary supplies. In addition, a students behavior and participation are also
accounted for in this assessment (i.e. using cell phones, doing homework from another
class). Students are expected to work individually and in small and large groups
cooperatively and independently. It is expected that students use their rehearsal time wisely
and are on task.
Performances: Students are to attend all mandatory performances throughout the year. In
addition, students will be required to attend early call times for pre-game/concert
