Dear Hiring Manager,
I am writing to express my interest in your company because my qualifications fit the needs of your
company, and then some. My interest in your company piqued when I was a child. Ive always wanted to
be a sports reporter for ESPN and now I potentially have the chance to become one. I spoke with one of
your advisors after your presentation and talked about how a job opportunity is definitely present with my
skill set. We delved into the intricacies of being a reporter and how much time and effort the position takes.
I view myself as a multidimensional asset and an asset who will never let you down. I consider myself to be
multidimensional because of my major and minor. I am a journalism major, digital media minor. I have the
capability of writing strong scripts while at the same time I can edit film on Adobe Premier and Avid
Editing System. Having both journalism and digital media in my repertoire makes me a strong candidate
because I know I can fulfill any task at hand when given to me. For instance, if I were to not have a camera
man present with me on the scene, I would be fully capable of creating my own shot and setting up a piece
by myself.
As a sports reporter, it is imperative that one serves as a role model and collaborates efficiently with his/her
colleagues. It is also essential that every piece I write about or talk about gets done on time. Being efficient
with your time is so fundamentally important as a reporter because if you procrastinate, you will not be able
to get things done promptly. My current job as a News Reporter at the Marquette Wire has provided me
with all the essentials I need to fulfill my duties at this position. Whenever a story needs to get done, I take
care of it and get everything in on time while making sure that my work is superior. Another important
aspect in the workplace is cooperation. I worked at Walgreens for 2 years and had to deal with customers
on a daily basis. Whether they were angry or not, we always put the customer first and made sure that they
walked out of our store with a smile on their face. This applies to the job at ESPN because having fun with
your colleagues and getting along is essential in the workplace. Anchors like Jonathan Coachman and John
Buccigross have incredible chemistry with each other when they are calling a highlight because they are
having fun and have respect for one another. Above all, I am very willing to learn new things and become a
knowledgeable asset for the company.
I have attached a copy of my resume to this cover letter and would be thankful if I was given the
opportunity to interview and continue my pursuit of a job at ESPN as a reporter. Thank you again for your
time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
Dean Bibens
