Transplanting Seedlings (Spotting Off)

Reason for Transplanting:


1. To space out plants
2. To get uniformity in the sales container
Growing Requirements differ from germinating requirements
1. More Fertility (either constant or incorporated, not dry)
2. Loose and aerable soil

2. Uniform germination
When to Spot Off?
1. As early as possible
2. After first set of true or adult leaves
3. Convenient size regardless of true leaves

How to spot off?


1. Use Care when removing from flat
2. Avoid Root Injury
3. Select as you go
a. Grade for size and uniformity
b. Grade out foreign species
c. Grade out diseased or injured stock
Carry flats to greenhouse and set bench with label in upper left corner, as
you face the flat
