SUBJECT: FREE CHOICE*

ART TERMS

WASH: a watercolor term for a flat layer of very diluted


semi-transparent color/paint laid across the paper.
PEN & WASH: wash of diluted ink or watercolor paint
applied in combination with a pen drawing.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------- MEDIUM: In art, "medium" refers to the substance the
artist uses to create his or her artwork (ex. paint, clay,
markers, newspaper, etc.)
MIXED MEDIA: A technique involving the use of two or
more artistic media, such as ink and pastel or painting
and collage that are combined in a single composition.

FREE CHOICE* PEN & WASH ASSIGNMENT (Animals, Insects,


Flowers, Feathers, People, Objects etc.)
1. Sketch out your ideas for your pen and wash
drawing in your sketchbook.
2. Final Draft:
-Subject is free choice (ex. Animals, insects,
flowers, people, land/cityscapes, etc.)
-You have to fill the entire page with your
drawing in pencil first, then go over your
drawing in sharpie pen.
-Paint the entire paper with a watercolor wash
(MORE WATER THAN PAINT & DO NOT MIX
COLORS!)
-Rinse your paint brush before using another
color. ****
3. Write your name on your watercolor paper
BEFORE you start painting.
4. Clean up materials and put your wet artwork
on the drying rack before you leave class.
