Welcome back!
Our new Reception children have
been exploring our school
groundsthe conversation between
Junior and Alex was lovely to hear. I
wonder what treasures they will dig
up?

An Exciting Year Ahead

Welcome back to the new school year!
It is wonderful to see everyone this
week, bubbling with the anticipation
of fresh new starts and possibilities. A
special welcome to all our wonderful
Reception children who have come in
with such enthusiasm this week.
We welcome our new teachers Mrs
Evans and Miss Wall into Year 4 and
Year 5. Congratulations to Mrs Harvey
(nee Jardine) who got married at the
end of July.
This will be a year where we continue
to focus on the provision for the
children in their learning. As an
outstanding school, we are passionate
about giving your children as many
real-life experiences in order to make
learning relevant and memorable.
We would like to welcome you to
school to Meet the Teachers this
week. The meeting will start in the hall
for everyone where I will welcome you
to the new school year and explain
some of the common approaches that
run through the school. You will then
have some time in classrooms to hear
about the specifics of the years that
your children will be in. This meeting is
a very useful start to the school year
where we start our journey together
for a successful year.
We will continue to communicate with
you in a number of ways this year.
Previously, some parents have felt
that they have missed announcements
or that these were given too late with

insufficient notice. It is my intention to

give as much notice as possible and to
accommodate parents at the most
convenient times as possible. Please
be aware, however, that it is not
always possible to please everyone,
all of the time, although this is our
intention! We will use the weekly
newsletter to celebrate events in
school and pupils achievements. We
will also try to give notice and details
of upcoming events. The school
website will receive updates as the
year progresses and dates will be
added as soon as they are booked in.
We also celebrate successes and share
achievements through our Twitter
feed. This can be seen from our
website homepage if you do not have
Twitter. It is worth scrolling through
now and again! Better still, please
follow us so you can share our
achievements with your friends and
family.
Emails and texts are also used to
quickly communicate with you. Please
download the School Gateway app to
receive texts as notifications on your
phone.
Finally, there is no better way than
communicating directly. Either I or
Mrs Harvey are normally available at
the beginning and end of the school
day and at other times (by
appointment through the school
office). Please feel free to share
positives or concerns with us directly.
Mr Chris Priddey (Headteacher)

School Priorities 2016-2017

School Meals

Each year, the staff and governors

identify priorities for school
improvement. This year, we will be
working on the following targets:

Maintain and build upon high

standards of attainment and progress

by embedding agreed whole school
strategies in English and mathematics.

To provide a curriculum that develops

and inspires the whole child.

To make accurate and well informed

judgements of our childrens
achievements.

To research potential models and be in

an informed position to make choices
about the possibility of becoming part
of a Multi Academy Trust (MAT).

Senior Leaders and Subject Leaders

make accurate judgements around
their subjects based on evidence
gathered over time.

To embed the Governors vision

created during 2015/16.

To ensure our children can flourish in a

safe, happy and healthy environment.

To promote positive behaviour and

attitudes throughout our setting.

Maintain and build upon high

standards of attainment and progress
by embedding agreed whole school
strategies in EYFS.

Over the summer, our school kitchen

has been refurbished with new
appliances and importantly a new
extraction system. The kitchen is now
fully compliant with all the regulations
and is up to full cooking capacity.
Our school lunches represent excellent
value for money at 2.20 a day (11 a
week). The new menus can now be
found on the school website. Please
remember that school lunches are free
for all children in Reception, Year 1
and Year 2. If you would like more
information about school lunches,
please speak to a member of the office
staff for more information.

Expectations at Sandiway
Primary School
The beginning of the school year is
always a good time to remind
ourselves of the high expectations we
have our ourselves and our children in
and around school. As a group of staff,
we have revisited our responsibilities
to ensure that we are working as hard
as possible for your children and that
they are as safe as possible in our
school community. Please take a few
minutes to read the following
information:
All children are expected to wear
school uniform (as detailed on the
school website) and have a smart
appearance in school.
All children are expected to arrive
at school for the bell at 8.45am and
to have a good attendance record.
Any issues of lateness or absence
will be followed up by the
Headteacher. Children should not
be left unsupervised at the
beginning of the school day.
Parents are expected to park safely
at the beginning and end of the
school day, setting good examples
to our children. The Parish Council
allow parents use of the car park
and expect cars to be parked safely
and driven respectfully. Cars should
not be parked in the drop off zone.
The Staff Car Park should not be
used by parents (unless dropping
children at Smallworld earlier in the
morning). Parents will be asked not

to park in the staff car park if this is

observed.
Disabled parking spaces should
only be used by members of our
community with mobility
difficulties.
Any concerns or complaints should
be addressed to the correct person
at the school. The complaints
procedure will be updated this
term and will be displayed on the
school website. Parents are
requested not to use social media
to communicate any complaints;
this can be damaging to the school
and children; it is also counterproductive in resolving any issues.

School Results
A summary of the results from last
year can be seen on the school
website. We are delighted with the
continued success that the school has
which is to the credit of the hardworking staff, children and parents.
Much work has gone on behind the
scenes this year by staff and
governors to ensure that staff are
teaching to a higher level of
expectation to reflect changes in the
National Curriculum and the way that
this is assessed. This hard work will
continue into this year as we are faced
with more changes and challenges in
our education system.

Governors
It is with regret that I must inform you
that one of our longest standing
governors, Mr Denis Kidd, has stepped
down from his position on the
governing board. Mr Kidd has
increasingly suffered with his health
and feels that he cannot commit to the
school in the same way he has done
over the years. I would like to take this
opportunity to thank Mr Kidd for all
his time, knowledge and dedication
you will be greatly missed.

PTA
All parents and staff are members of
the PTA; all are welcome to our AGM,
which will be held in school on
Monday 12th September from 7.00pm.
We are looking for new members of
the committee to continue our
successes this year.
