Supplies:

Gauge: 4 spi (on size 10 needles)

2-4 oz of bulky weight yarn

Fit: 1 inch negative ease (tight fitting beanie)

Darning Needle

Sizing: 14 (16, 18, 20, 22, 24) inches (infant through adult)

US 8, 16 inch needles
US 10, 16 inch needles
US 10, DPNs (optional)
1 stitch marker

Pattern:
Cast on using smaller needles: 48 (56, 64, 72, 80, 88) stitches using long tail cast on, or your choice of a stretchy cast on.
Place marker and join in the round and knit in k2xp2 ribbing for 2 (2, 2, 2, 2, 2) inches
Switch to larger needles and knit for 4 (5, 5.5, 6, 6.5, 7) in from cast on edge
Begin Crown Shaping:
Row 1: *k6, k2tog* repeat for entire round
Row 2: (and all even rows) Knit
Row 3: *k5, k2tog* repeat for entire round
Row 5: *k4, k2tog* repeat for entire round
Row 7: *k3, k2tog* repeat for entire round
Row 9: *k2, k2tog* repeat for entire round
Row 10: *k2tog* repeat for entire round
Cut yarn leaving a 8 inch tail and weave it through the
remaining stitches on the needle and pull tight. Weave in
ends.

Hat can be worn with the ribbing folded up or down to cover the ears.
