Asthefirstfiveweeksofschoolcometoaclose,the8thgradeteamissendinghomethisletterto
makesurethatallfamiliesareawareofandunderstandtheeligibilityrequirementsandprocedures
for8thgradefieldtrips.Studentswhofailtomeettheeligibilityrequirementsordeadlinesmaynotbe
eligibletoattendsomefieldtripsthisyear.

Schooltripsarechosenasexperiencesthatcomplementthelearningthatistakingplaceinthe
classroomoftenmorethanoneclassroom.Tripsareaprivilegeandstudentsmustmeetthe
eligibilityrequirementstoattend.

AdministrativeDiscretion
Studentswhohaveacademicorbehaviorchallengesduringtheweekbeforethetripmay
becomeineligibletoattendthefieldtripattheadministratorsdiscretion.
Studentswhoobtainfourormorecontracts(behaviorand/oracademic)willbeineligiblefor
anyfieldtripsfortheremainderofthesemester.
Parentswillbecontactedassoonaspossible,however,theadministratorsatRichardMerkin
MiddleSchoolreservetherighttokeepanystudentbehindfromafieldtripthatdoesnot
meeteligibilityexpectationsordeadlines.
