Unique Pre-sequence in the Process of Sundanese Wedding Muka Panto
(Opening Bridges Door)

Muka Panto (Opening Bridges door) is a wedding event that symbolizes to love each
other between husband and wife. The event accompanied by a series of "Mamaos"
(Master of ceremony) who guides the bride doing this event. The event begins with
knocking the door three times.
After praying together in shalawat (praising to the prophet Muhammad SAW), the
bridegroom go to bridges door and knocking it three times.
Bridge (1):
Na tuh eta teh saha
Ngetrok panto lain wanci
Rek nyemah di lain wayah
Inggis teuing diri abdi

(who is that)
(Knocking the door in a wrong time)
(This is not time for visiting)
( I am afraid)

The bridge act that she annoyed by someone who she doesnt know knocking her door.
In fact, she knows exactly that the one is her bridegroom. Since the process of wedding
isnt complete yet, she tends to keep the door close.
Bridgeroom (2):
Nu geulis bet lali deui
Kapan urang tadi lawung
Dirapalan di istrenan
Maheutkeun pasini jangji

(why do you forget my beauty)

(we have met already)
(prayed and legalized)
(binding our promise)

The bridegroom tried to explain the bridge by telling what they have done already. That
is the process of legalized them to be a married couple.

Bridge (3):
Naha leres naha leres
Engkang teh panutan rasa

(is that true)

(you are my heart)

The bridge try to make sure that the man is really her bridegroom.

Bridgeroom (4):
Piraku engkang rek cidra
Garoh bohong kanu geulis

(I cant lie)
(cant lie to the beauty)

The bridegroom by his compliment tried hardly to prove that he is really the
bridegroom.
Bridge (5):
Duh engkang hapunten teuing
(oh my love, I am so sorry)
Sanes abdi bade nundung
(I dont mean to forget)
Mun leres engkang satia
(if you are serious to be faith)
Ucapkeun kalimah kalih
(please say syahadah)
Dibarung pangjurung laku
( by your gentle attitude)
Dipayuneun sadayana
(in front of all people)
Sumangga engkang sumangga
(please my love go ahead)
The bridge challenged the bridegroom to prove his seriousness of his love by saying
syahadah in front of all people (guests).

After opening the door, The Mamaos then leads the bridegroom to say syahadah.
