Ministry involves a leap of faith that will change your life as
God uses you to ease the burdens of others!

Read the Bible in a Year

In our readings from the wisdom scriptures of
Ecclesiastes: Two are better than one, because
they have a good return for their labor: If either of
them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and
has no one to help them up. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10)
Over the years my parents belonged to a number of different
organizations and made many new friends with whom they would spend
time and do things together. But after a while they all seemed to move
apart and lose touch with one another. So my mother once asked me
how I got to meet and keep so many good friends. And the answer wasnt
difficult; the answer was church, but more specifically it was the
relationships we had found in small group settings.
I believe that getting involved in small group ministry provides invaluable
ways to take giant steps forward in our walks of faith. Being in community
with other Christians supplements our worship experiences; gives us a
better understanding of scripture, and helps us grow in our prayer lives.
As Christians, we should not be alone and scripture abounds with
meaningful directions on this subject:
They devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and to the fellowship,
to the breaking of bread, and to prayer. All the believers were together
and had everything in common. Every day they continued to meet
together... they broke bread in their homes and ate together... and the
Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." (Acts
2:42, 44, 46-47)
Scripture also guides us in building relationships that show us how to
move forward together as the Body of Christ:
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and
good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of
doing, but encouraging one anotherand all the more as you see the
Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:24-25)
So as you prepare yourself for the coming season and want to know
where the best place is to invest your time please consider joining one
of the many discipleship studies that are being offered this fall at
ESUMC.
