Bambusa suberecta - Jesse Durko

Bamboo plants
A beautiful, relatively small-growing ornamental bamboo that has both variegated leaves and
striated culms. For years, the identity of this Thai import had us stumped.
Recently, we met a grower in Thailand who had it labeled as Arundinaria suberecta. The A.B.S.
references that as a common mistake and corrects the species ID as Bambusa suberecta.
Will grow to 20'-25' tall with thin 1" dia. culms. Somewhat bushy in form. It remains
quite rare in the United States. As are all tropical bamboo species, this is a clumping bamboo
and does not spread uncontrollably.
The temperate bamboos, grown in northern climates, are mostly runners (we do not specialize in
temperate bamboos).
3 gallon bamboos are 6'-7' tall. Also available: 7, 15, 25, 45, 65 95, 200, 300 gallon sizes as well
as field-grown specimens.
Tropical Bamboo Nursery & Gardens - The Bamboo Plant Source
Tropical Bamboo, Inc. is a progressive, 14 acre nursery and display garden specializing in
tropical, clumping bamboo plants. This is the largest display collection of tropical bamboo
varieties in the United States.
The gardens are open to the public Monday-Saturday 8:00-4:30. The nursery
is based in Loxahatchee, (Palm Beach) Florida. Directions and a map can be found on the

The nursery founder is the president of the Florida/Caribbean Chapter of the American Bamboo
Society - we have been directly involved with the most significant discoveries and events related
to bamboo throughout the world.
This includes the importation of most of the tropical bamboo species through the chapter's
USDA quarantine system.
We are certified by the Florida Department of Agriculture (Registration # 47231849) and also
have certificates to ship to most U.S. States.
Tropical Bamboo Nursery currently offers more than 200 varieties of bamboo from
container sizes to field grown. These include an exotic rainbow of culm colors, variegation, and
form.
Our nursery prides itself with educating our visitors on bamboo-related aspects and
recommending the perfect species for each application.
