Noli Me Tangere

Title: Chapter: 23The Fishing Excursion


Setting: Forest, Spring
Characters: Maria Clara, Sinang, Victoria, Iday, Neneng, Capt. Tiago, Andeng, Boatman and Ibarra
Story: It was still night when the group started their picnic. Maria Clara was with her four
friends: Sinang, Victoria, Iday and Neneng. The girls were giggling rather loudly causing Aunt
Isabel to scold them. Upon reaching their bancas, the gentlemen and the ladies were separated
into two bancas. However, because the ladies feared that their banca would sink, the young men
quickly sat beside them.
The boatman or the pilot was busy navigating their boats. He was athletic, with large and sad
eyes, and compressed lips. The group pitied him and offered him a piece of cracker, which he
graciously accepted.
Upon reaching the fish-corrals, which Captain Tiago owns, Andeng, who is known to be a good
cook, set the preparation for the Sinigang. Iday played her harp, and Maria Clara serenaded them
with a love song.
They continued their cooking but were unable to catch any fish for their Sinigang. They
discovered they accidentally caught a crocodile. They suggested of killing it but none of the men
dared to jump into the water. The pilot jumped into the water and wrestled with it. However, the
crocodile was stronger than anticipated the pilot struggled. Ibarra jumped in the water to assist
him, much to the surprise of every one.
Few intense moments later, the water turned red. Ibarra and the pilot managed to kill the
crocodile with the pilot only sustaining a slight scratch. He turned to Ibarra and told him he owe
him his life. They continued on with their picnic and ate their breakfast in the forest owned by
Ibarra.

Conclusion: In this chapter we will see that they are enjoying in their picnic, they woke up so
early so that they can catched many fish however they cant catch easily. They tried many

techniques in catching a fish. In the end of this chapter they catched many fish and they cooked it
in Sinigang.
