September 8, 2016:
International Literacy Day!

Book Club Kicks Off This Month!

Mrs. Libby (5th grade) & Mrs. Grace (2nd & 3rd grade)
will each be holding Small Groups with whom we will
practice guided reading and support literacy
strategies with our bubble babies (using FSA &
Achieve3000 scores) to promote continued growth
on standardized assessments. We hope to support
school-wide literacy as well as individual reading
growth and an overall love of reading!

Fifty years ago on this date, the United Nations

Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization
established International Literacy Day as a way to
promote literacy to empower individuals,
communities, and societies internationally. Todays
celebration honors the past five decades of
engagement, efforts, and progress made to
increase literacy worldwide. Duval County Public
Schools promotes literacy in various ways, including
literacy weeks, the Superintendents Reading
Challenge, DJs Book Club, a partnership with the
Jacksonville Public Library that offers both student
and educator library cards, and more!

Conduct Re-Evaluations This Month
A big change came from the county regarding 504
plan re-evaluations (which require the presence of
the School Psychologist): 504 Re-evaluations will now
only take place in transitional years (5th & 8th
grades), while updates will continue to take place
each year outside of 5th & 8th. Those agendas &
calendar invitations will be sent to the applicable
teachers and updated copies of ALL plans will be
provided.
