Dear,
Danny Moser-Kinsmen President
Charlotte Van Ryn-Kinette President
Family of Kin

We are writing this letter to thank you for your support last year and to ask that you consider donating to
our One School, One Book project at Jennie Emery Elementary School again this year. Last year we
began the project and did get to the final week before Covid shut us down. We know many of the families
continued to read the book even without our guidance and encouragement, which was nice to hear. The
staff and students are planning to try it again this year. We were hoping the Kin Family would again
consider being the sole sponsor of this Community Literacy Project. We are cautiously optimistic that we
will be able to proceed and that elementary school will stay in person throughout this school year.

One School, One Book is a yearly family literacy initiative to encourage families to read quality children’s
novels aloud, together, at home. The project is designed to unite an entire school community of parents,
teachers and students by choosing a chapter book to read together over a specified period of time. Every
family and faculty member of our school is given a copy of the same children’s novel. During this time the
school will do a variety of activities at school to promote interest and discussion of the book. Examples
include, (for this year) a virtual kick-off school assembly, school wide projects and daily trivia questions.
The school-wide immersion into one book encourages discussion about the book which can extend from
the classroom, involving every layer of the school community as well as promote literacy at home. We are
also hoping that it will bring our community of parents, teachers and students together this year in a way
that just isn’t physically possible during this pandemic.

We would require an amount of $3000.00 split between your clubs to fund this project. The funds would
be used to purchase the books for families and faculty and to go towards activities to promote the project.
All the books would contain a label thanking the Kin Family for sponsoring this project as well as school
newsletters and letters to our Jennie Emery families regarding One School, One Book. If it so happens
that schools return to virtual learning we will continue this online or if we had the funds and/or the books
and hadn’t yet started, we will push the project to the next year.

We look forward to hearing from you. Feel free to contact us regarding any questions you may have
regarding our project.
