ZAMBOANGA CITY - The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and
Seismology is set to conduct a thorough study on two fault lines found
in this city. Phivolcs Zamboanga city officer Allan Labayog said Tuesday that the city sits between two fault lines. Labayog said one of the fault line is located in Barangay Limpapa and the other in Barangay Vitali and connected to the mountains of Barangay Curuan. Barangay Limpapa, which is located 42 kilometers west of this city, is at the boundary with Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte. Vitali is located 83.99 kilometers east of this city is this citys second to the last barangay towards the boundary with Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay. Barangay Curuan is 50 kilometers east of this city. Labayog said there is still no proper study on the two fault lines since these were determined only through maps and surveys. He said the study is to ensure that no structures will be placed in top of the fault lines. (PNA)
