Activity 2

The sts are explained that


compliments can vary in
intensity: they can be friendly,
romantic, or cheesy, meaning
that the compliment is just too
exaggerated to be taken seriously.
(You are the best cook in the
universe!). The sts have to look at
the six compliments in the
10 min
worksheet, and decide which
compliments are friendly, which
are romantic and which are
cheesy. The correction of the
activity will be discussed. Also,
the sts have to say which
compliments they
would/wouldnt like to receive,
and why.

The T asks the sts if they know,


or can guess, what the expression
love at first sight means, and if
we have a similar expression in
our own language. The sts are
going to read a speech from
Romeo and Juliet. Romeo is
standing below Juliets balcony
watching her, although she cant
see him because it is dark. The T 20 min
explains that Romeo talks about
Juliet in a very complimentary
way and compares her to different
things. The sts have to guess what
compliments Romeo gives Juliet
and what he compares her to. The
ideas will be written on the board.
After that they sts read the text
and answer the questions.

Juliet finishes speaking, Romeo
comes out of hiding. The sts have
to write the first few lines of their

a Shakespearean (using words
from the glossary) or a
contemporary style.
