Introduction
Starting a new unit called A picture tells a thousand words.
Are picture books just for kids?
What can we learn from picture books?
What makes a good picture book?
briefly touch on last lessons short introduction.
Go through definitions of visual techniques on powerpoint,
ask students to title a page glossary
Explain we will use these techniques to decode the front
cover of the book we will be focussing on for this unit.
The picture book we are looking at is The Rabbits by Shaun
Tan.
Distribute class set of text, keep books closed.
Students complete the techniques sheet and use this
information to write the prediction, model a few of these
boxes.
Prediction activity- From the image on the cover predict what
the text will be about, write this in the box. Justify what in the
image-helped students come to this conclusion.
